We are continuing in other words the study which we are making of this great statement of the Christian Gospel which is found here in this first chapter of this epistle to the Colossians running from verse 12 to the end of verse 23 and we are doing it for this reason that the Apostle here owing to the special circumstances which prevailed in the church at colassi felt it necessary that he should write this letter in order to remind them of the elements and the fundamentals of the Christian faith. [00:01:00]

The Apostle could see at a glance that it was rarely a denial of Christianity, it was a false gospel not a gospel at all so he writes the letter to the Colossians in order to expose to them the specious character of these false teachings and his object is to establish these people in the Christian faith and so he gives us this magnificent display and definition of what the gospel rarely is and that's why we are examining it. [00:02:07]

Christianity is that which assures us that whatever may happen to us in this life and in this world if we are in Christ Jesus if we are the children of God there is awaiting us an inheritance of which nobody can rob us, no bombs can rob us of it, no war can rob us of it, no enemies, no tyrannies, nothing can rob us of that. [00:05:16]

The first characteristic of a Christian is that he gives thanks unto the father that's the 12th verse you remember giving thanks unto the Father which ha made us meat to be partakers of the inheritance of the Saints in light so that the first characteristic of a Christian is this is he a good man no no you can be a good man without being a Christian. [00:06:00]

People don't thank God because they don't realize what God has done if we all but realize what God has done for us in Christ we'd be filled with prayers we'd be lost in a sense of wonder love and praise and if we are not thankful well it's just because we don't realize what is done. [00:07:09]

The real trouble with a man who's not a Christian is that he's the slave of the devil it isn't that he's got a great brain it's that he's got a DED brain that the God of this world has blinded the minds of them that believe not lest they believe the Glorious gospel of Christ slaves of the darkness slaves of the devil. [00:08:37]

The trouble with mankind is not simply that it's in the power of the darkness under the Dominion of the devil or Satan tyrannized over by the God of this world the prince of the power of the air that's not our only trouble it's the first but unfortunately doesn't stop at that there is this further thing. [00:10:31]

Man's whole nature and character changed when he listened to the devil the Bible puts it like this that God made men in his own image which means that he was good which means that he really was innocent innocent of evil God Made Men upright God Made Men righteous he said let us make men in our own image and he did so. [00:14:31]

The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked who can can know it David in the midst of his sin cries out and says create within me a clean heart oh God and renew a right Spirit within me you see he's not troubled so much by his actions of course he's troubled by his actions but what rarely troubles him and makes him feel desperate is this he says what is this thing that's in me that makes me capable of doing such a thing my heart is rotten my spirit is vile. [00:17:48]

The natural man receiveth not the things of the spirit of God for they are foolishness unto him neither can he for they are spiritually discerned what does it mean well it means this you see that man shows his innate and natural hatred of God in his attitude towards God's truth and God's teaching in his attitude towards the Bible and its glorious gospel. [00:35:20]

The natural man receiveth not the things of the spirit of God for their are foolishness unto him neither can he for they are spiritually discerned here he is he has Men by Nature alien enemy Wicked vile unclean and yet he wants to be as it were an inheritor with the Saints in light how can he can he change himself can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots of course he can't. [00:46:39]

The Christian is a man who realizes that the Son of God left that Holiness and that glory and came into this wicked evil old world and mixed in its life and endured its contradiction and even died upon that cross on calvary's hill and was buried in a grave and there fought the devil and the last powers and rose again and ascended what for well to make us fit and meat to be able to enjoy God to enjoy heaven to enjoy eternity.
