Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

People came from all over to follow Jesus, to come into his presence. Jews and Gentiles alike. His fame compelled people. To draw near to him. But being aware of Jesus is not the same thing as responding to Jesus. Being aware or intrigued by Jesus is not the same as responding to him. [00:35:47]

What's amazing here is the diversity which spanned across the people of Israel, which is seen through Jesus' ministry, His ministry was not merely to the Israelites, but His ministry spanned across all sorts of people. [00:39:33]

See many of those who sought him did so out of need personal need they selfishly wanted something from jesus jesus give me an answer for this problem fix it please and out of desperation they came seeking to access divine power but accessing his divine power is not the same as responding to jesus. [00:41:57]

Jesus' focus during this time of his life was to preach the gospel of the kingdom. He was there to demonstrate what God's plan for the kingdom was. The necessity of repentance and belief in him. [00:44:56]

Demons. Do you ever wonder why they would want to possess, to live within, These demons would cast these individuals before Jesus crying out in unearthly voices and saying, You are the Son of God! but this was their futile attempt to render Jesus powerless, to use the name of a divinity in order to control that divinity. [00:52:47]

The irony here is this. The demons who knew that Jesus was the son of God. We're trying to control him, but multitudes of people fail to understand who he is. They think of him only as a miracle worker, someone to get a selfish end for their needs. [00:54:08]

Demons that at the very best can pretend to be God, know the true identity of Jesus, and they're going to be God. Yet those who are created in the very image of God fail to comprehend. [00:55:05]

See, demons recognize Jesus, the Son of God, out of fear and out of a desire to control him. But we have the ability to know and respond to Jesus, the Son of God, out of faith and submission. [01:03:20]

Jesus is the living Son of God and recognizing him as such demands an appropriate response to who he is and to what he has done. To truly know Jesus, is to respond to him with faith and obedience and to allow him to have authority in my life. [01:09:57]

We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one person in two natures. Jesus, Israel's promised Messiah, was conceived through the Holy Spirit, and born again. He was born of the Virgin Mary. [01:05:44]

He lived a sinless life. He was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father, as our High Priest and Advocate. Article 5. [01:06:41]

We believe that Jesus Christ, as our representative and substitute, shed his blood on the cross as the perfect, all-sufficient Sacrifice for our sins. His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation. [01:07:59]
