God’s hand is present in both the grand and the ordinary moments of life, guiding, providing, and sometimes surprising us with His subtle or spectacular interventions. Whether it’s a miraculous answer to prayer or the simple discovery of a lost item, God’s hand is always at work, inviting us to notice and acknowledge His presence in every detail of our day. When we pause to reflect, we realize that even the smallest blessings are evidence of His care, and cultivating this awareness transforms our perspective and fills us with gratitude. [03:10]
Ezra 7:6-10 (NIV)
This Ezra came up from Babylon. He was a teacher well versed in the Law of Moses, which the Lord, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted him everything he asked, for the hand of the Lord his God was on him. Some of the Israelites, including priests, Levites, musicians, gatekeepers and temple servants, also came up to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes. Ezra arrived in Jerusalem in the fifth month of the seventh year of the king. He had begun his journey from Babylon on the first day of the first month, and he arrived in Jerusalem on the first day of the fifth month, for the gracious hand of his God was on him. For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel.
Reflection: What is one small, easily overlooked way you’ve seen God’s hand at work in your life this week, and how can you intentionally thank Him for it today?
The hand of the Lord is seen in the vastness of creation and in His mighty acts throughout history, reminding us of His power, creativity, and authority over all things. When we gaze at the stars or witness the beauty of nature, we are invited to marvel at the work of His fingers, and when we read of His intervention in the lives of His people, we are reminded that His hand is both glorious in power and intimately involved in our world. This awareness calls us to trust Him, knowing that the same hand that shaped the universe is able to guide, protect, and sustain us. [08:16]
Psalm 8:3 (NIV)
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
Exodus 15:6 (NIV)
Your right hand, Lord, was majestic in power. Your right hand, Lord, shattered the enemy.
Isaiah 48:13 (NIV)
My own hand laid the foundations of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens; when I summon them, they all stand up together.
Reflection: The next time you are outside, pause to look at the sky or nature around you—how does recognizing God’s creative hand in these things change your sense of trust in His power for your own life?
God’s hand is most powerfully experienced when we step out of our comfort zones and follow His direction, trusting Him to provide the means, power, and guidance we need. Like Ezra, who left a place of comfort to pursue God’s calling, we are invited to be active in God’s purposes, knowing that when we move in obedience, God’s empowering presence goes with us. It is often in the moments when we feel least equipped or most vulnerable that God’s hand is most evident, enabling us to serve others and fulfill His purposes beyond our own abilities. [16:01]
Acts 11:20-21 (NIV)
Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus. The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.
Reflection: What is one area where you sense God calling you to step out in faith or serve beyond your comfort—how can you take a practical step toward that today, trusting His hand to empower you?
Experiencing the good hand of the Lord requires humility—recognizing our need for Him, seeking His guidance through prayer and even fasting, and acknowledging that every good thing comes from His gracious hand. Like Ezra, who fasted and prayed for God’s protection rather than presuming upon it, we are called to look to God, to humble ourselves under His mighty hand, and to trust that He will lift us up in due time. This posture of humility and dependence opens the way for God to answer our prayers and direct our steps. [23:42]
1 Peter 5:6 (NIV)
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
Ezra 8:21-23 (NIV)
There, by the Ahava Canal, I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions. I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.” So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.
Reflection: Is there a situation in your life where you need to humble yourself and specifically seek God’s guidance or help—how can you set aside time today to pray (or even fast) and look for His hand?
Acknowledging and remembering the times when God’s hand has moved in our lives—both in the subtle and the miraculous—builds our faith and encourages us in present challenges. When we recall past testimonies of God’s intervention, we are reminded that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and that He can do again what He has done before. Sharing these stories with others not only strengthens our own trust but also encourages the faith of the whole community, helping us to persevere and expect God’s hand in our current circumstances. [30:13]
Psalm 77:11-14 (ESV)
I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds. Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples.
Reflection: Think of a specific time when you clearly saw God’s hand at work in your life—how can you share that testimony with someone this week to encourage their faith?
God’s hand is not only present in the grand, miraculous moments of life, but also in the small, everyday details that we often overlook. Whether it’s a subtle nudge, a moment of humor with family, or a profound answer to prayer, God’s involvement is woven throughout our stories. The biblical account of Ezra illustrates this beautifully: Ezra, a scribe of great influence and comfort in Babylon, chose to step out in faith and obedience, embarking on a risky journey to Jerusalem. He did so not because it was easy, but because he was convinced of God’s direction, provision, and power—what the Hebrew calls the “yad” or open hand of God, signifying power, means, and direction.
Ezra’s life shows that the good hand of the Lord rests on those who are aligned with His will, who are willing to move beyond their comfort zones, and who seek to serve others rather than themselves. God’s empowerment is not for our own glory, but for the benefit of those around us and the fulfillment of His purposes. When we step out in faith, God’s hand becomes evident—sometimes in spectacular ways, sometimes in the quiet provision of a lost memory stick or a word of encouragement at just the right time.
But experiencing God’s hand is not a passive affair. It requires us to be active, to step into situations where we need His help, and to trust Him when we feel inadequate. It’s in those moments—when we are stretched, when we humble ourselves, when we fast and pray, when we acknowledge our dependence on Him—that God’s hand is most powerfully displayed. Like Ezra, we are called to seek God’s guidance, to acknowledge His goodness daily, and to humble ourselves under His mighty hand, trusting that He will lift us up in due time.
Gratitude and recognition of God’s hand transform our perspective, filling us with thankfulness and hope, even in difficult seasons. When we look back and remember God’s faithfulness—whether in small, humorous moments or in life-changing miracles—we are reminded that the same God who acted then is with us now, ready to guide, provide, and empower as we walk in His will.
Ezra 7:6-10 (ESV) — > This Ezra went up from Babylonia. He was a scribe skilled in the Law of Moses that the LORD, the God of Israel, had given, and the king granted him all that he asked, for the hand of the LORD his God was on him. And there went up also to Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king, some of the people of Israel, and some of the priests and Levites, the singers and gatekeepers, and the temple servants. And Ezra came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king. For on the first day of the first month he began to go up from Babylonia, and on the first day of the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, for the good hand of his God was on him. For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the LORD, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.
1 Peter 5:6 (ESV) — > Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you.
Acts 11:21 (ESV) — > And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed turned to the Lord.
So Ezra was on track. I believe the good hand of God was on him because he was in the will of God. So one question we ask ourselves is, where am I with God? Am I where he wants me to be? Am I going in the direction he wants me to go? Because we are. If we are, then I'm absolutely convinced we're assured of his hand upon our lives. [00:16:15] (30 seconds) #InGodsWillWeThrive
But sometimes God's hand is spectacularly upon our lives. Powerfully upon our lives. But that isn't necessary unless we are needing God's hand to be upon our lives in that way. So when we are active and we step out of our comfort zone, when we sometimes step out of our own skill zone, then God needs to actively step in. It's about letting go and trusting God. It's about recognizing where does God want me to be. [00:18:09] (37 seconds) #GodShinesThroughOurWeakness
You see, it doesn't say their preaching was eloquent and incredibly powerful. Their meetings were phenomenally well organised. Not that those things shouldn't be done, absolutely. But it says the Lord's hand was with them. They were in the right place at the right time, doing the right thing. They have that empowerment and grace of God that enabled them to see God's hand at work. [00:20:41] (23 seconds) #SubtleAndSpectacularGrace
And then the other thing about this man and others who saw the hand of the Lord moving powerfully in their life was their acknowledgement of it. You know, if we could just acknowledge and recognise God's hand in our lives day by day, how we view life would be so different. We'd be so thankful. You know, there's even loads of research that says gratitude is good for you. It's good for your well -being. It's good for your mental health. You know, if we start the day acknowledging how great God is. and what he's doing for us that's a tremendous way to start the day you know when I get up and I think I'm not so achy as yesterday my mind is still functioning though Jan may not always agree and there's just so many things isn't there to acknowledge God's grace about and his goodness so it's that acknowledgement of God's goodness that's important. [00:23:10] (74 seconds) #GodsGoodnessTransforms
So we fasted and petitioned our god about this and he answered our prayer that little bit at the end and he answered our prayer it just seemed so small but that meant that the whole journey went fantastic no problem the kids was i like he mentions the kids the kids were safe they were okay they were safe they got there but the thing was you see is is the thing that sometimes we tend not to do or tend to do in the wrong order sometimes and he says here god is on everyone who looks to him who looks to him we need to look to god's hand being upon our lives. [00:26:19] (48 seconds) #SeekGodsHandActively
And sometimes we have to look for God's hand, especially when things just crowd in on us and we feel like we can't see him. And we need to sort of maybe set that time aside and be still before God and allow him to do that. Allow him to bring that clarity. Whether that's a change of direction or whether that's just assuring us that the direction we're going in is right. But we need to look and to be humble before him.
