Reclaiming Our Lives: A Call to Spiritual Responsibility

Summary

In today's gathering, we explored the theme of reclaiming our lives and the importance of taking responsibility for our spiritual journey. Reflecting on the past two years, many of us have felt as though parts of our lives have been taken from us, whether due to external circumstances or internal struggles. This is a call to action, a wake-up call, to refocus and realign our lives with God's purpose. We are reminded that no cavalry is coming to rescue us; instead, we must stand firm with Jesus, who is already within us, ready to lead us to victory.

The story from 1 Kings 20 served as a powerful illustration of the consequences of distraction and disobedience. The prophet's tale of a soldier who let a prisoner escape because he was busy with other things is a metaphor for how we can lose sight of our spiritual responsibilities. This narrative challenges us to guard our lives diligently, ensuring that we do not let the opportunities and responsibilities God has entrusted to us slip away.

We are encouraged to examine our lives and ask ourselves what we are doing with the gifts and resources God has given us. It's easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, focusing on material gains and worldly success, but we must remember that our true calling is to follow God wholeheartedly. This is a wake-up call to prioritize our spiritual health and to be vigilant in our walk with God.

As we move forward, we must guard against the temptations to give in to worldly pressures or to give up when the journey becomes difficult. Instead, we are called to persevere, trusting that God is working in our lives and that our efforts will bear fruit in His time. This is our moment to make a difference, to take back our lives, and to live out our faith boldly and authentically.

Day 1: Reclaiming Our Spiritual Journey
In the past two years, many have felt a loss of control over their lives due to various external and internal challenges. This is a call to action to reclaim our lives by focusing on our spiritual journey and aligning with God's purpose. We are reminded that no external savior is coming to rescue us; instead, we must stand firm with Jesus, who is already within us, ready to lead us to victory. This involves a conscious decision to refocus our priorities and ensure that our lives are in harmony with God's will. By doing so, we can regain control and live a life that is fulfilling and purposeful. [31:01]

Ephesians 5:15-17 (ESV): "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is."

Reflection: What specific steps can you take today to realign your life with God's purpose and reclaim your spiritual journey?

Day 2: Guarding Against Distraction
The story from 1 Kings 20 serves as a powerful reminder of the dangers of distraction and disobedience. The narrative of a soldier who let a prisoner escape because he was busy with other things is a metaphor for how we can lose sight of our spiritual responsibilities. This challenges us to guard our lives diligently, ensuring that we do not let the opportunities and responsibilities God has entrusted to us slip away. It is crucial to remain vigilant and focused on our spiritual duties, resisting the temptation to become preoccupied with worldly distractions. [40:34]

Proverbs 4:25-27 (ESV): "Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil."

Reflection: Identify one distraction in your life that is pulling you away from your spiritual responsibilities. How can you minimize or eliminate this distraction today?

Day 3: Prioritizing Spiritual Health
In the hustle and bustle of life, it is easy to focus on material gains and worldly success, often at the expense of our spiritual health. However, our true calling is to follow God wholeheartedly, prioritizing our spiritual well-being and being vigilant in our walk with Him. This involves a conscious effort to nurture our relationship with God, ensuring that it remains the central focus of our lives. By doing so, we can experience a deeper sense of peace and fulfillment, knowing that we are living in accordance with God's will. [49:31]

Colossians 3:1-2 (ESV): "If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth."

Reflection: What is one practical way you can prioritize your spiritual health today, ensuring that your relationship with God remains central in your life?

Day 4: Perseverance in Faith
As we navigate the challenges of life, we must guard against the temptations to give in to worldly pressures or to give up when the journey becomes difficult. Instead, we are called to persevere, trusting that God is working in our lives and that our efforts will bear fruit in His time. This requires a steadfast commitment to our faith, even in the face of adversity, and a willingness to trust in God's plan for our lives. By persevering in faith, we can overcome obstacles and experience the fullness of God's blessings. [01:11:30]

James 1:2-4 (ESV): "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."

Reflection: Think of a current challenge you are facing. How can you persevere in faith, trusting that God is working through this situation for your good?

Day 5: Making a Difference for God's Kingdom
This is our moment to make a difference, to take back our lives, and to live out our faith boldly and authentically. We are accountable for what we do with the gifts and resources God has given us, and we must use them to advance His kingdom. This involves a commitment to living a life that reflects God's love and grace, impacting those around us in meaningful ways. By doing so, we can contribute to the growth of God's kingdom and experience the joy of fulfilling our divine purpose. [01:17:02]

1 Peter 4:10-11 (ESV): "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ."

Quotes

I can't fix what happened in 2020. I can't fix what happened in 2021. I can't fix the problems we've faced in the church in the last two years. But I can do something about today. I can't do a lot about the mistakes I've made in the past. And neither can you. But I can follow in this moment. I can do something about my life in this moment. And that's where I want to take you today. And I want to talk about this is your wake-up call. [00:33:24] (32 seconds)

There's been times you knew you should have been in God's word and you haven't. You know what that is? That's disobedience. There's times we should be praying. We should be close to God. We talked about it a couple of weeks ago when we talked about praying together. One. One of the reasons I want you to be in the word is one. That's where your power and strength, that's where the relationship connection to God comes from. But it's also what directs your prayer life instead of just praying these willy nilly Santa Claus prayers. [00:46:14] (31 seconds)

And the church today, it seems like we're just driving down this road at breakneck speed. And there's a bridge out, bridge out, bridge out, barrier, barrier, barrier. And we're headed off the cliff at 90 miles an hour thinking, that means somebody else. That means another church over there. That means that church over there that's liberal. That means that church over there that doesn't believe the Word of God. Can I tell you, if you don't read the Word of God and know the Word of God, you might as well be in a liberal church. [00:49:31] (30 seconds)

Guard against giving in to the world. Giving in to your heart. Giving in to your emotions. An incredibly intelligent guy. I've tried to pay attention to older men and women in my life who have spoken into my life. And I had a guy tell me one time, when you don't know what to do. Listen up. Listen to this. Don't do anything. Just tap the brakes and wait. See what God does. I had another guy speak into my life and help me. As a matter of fact, I've heard this multiple times. Don't make a major decision in an emotional moment. [01:05:54] (43 seconds)

Does anybody here else besides me want to take back your life and make a difference for God? Because when it's all said and done, it isn't going to matter what kind of house I live in, what kind of car I drive, what kind of clothes I wear. But it is going to make a difference what I do for God. And listen to me. It's going to make a difference in eternity for some other people. [01:17:02] (27 seconds)

I don't mean David Harper is going to get them into heaven. I mean, don't misunderstand that. Oh, David, how are you going to get people to heaven? I'm going to tell them about Jesus. I'm not going to sit back and just let our world go to hell and sit on my hands and go, yeah, I'm not responsible. Yes, we are. Like the story of that prophet. He was responsible for that one guy. And he got distracted and let him get away. And I'm saying to you this morning, don't let that happen to you. [01:18:44] (31 seconds)
