“Democrats, you have to love Republicans. And Republicans, you have to love Democrats. I see some of you shaking head. You can't do that. You can't do that. You can disagree with each other, but you're to love each other. That's the gospel. That ain't easy. And my brothers and sisters, it doesn't stop there. It's when you wake up and you look at the mirror and you think about all the grudges that you hold, all the hatred that's in your heart, all the resentments that you have for someone who've done you wrong, Jesus asks you to deal with that, to learn to love those you don't love. That's part of this risky business of loving like Jesus loves.”

“That's the kind of love that Jesus wants us to participate Now it won't be easy. It never is to do the right thing. But my brothers and sisters, Jesus teaches us over and over again in this passage alone. How many times does he say, don't be afraid. Don't fear them because I am with you. I care about you as much as I care about a sparrow. I number all the hairs on your head. I know everything about you. I created you, and I was enthralled with you when I created you because I love you. I will be with you, and that which is most personally you, that core who is really you, has eternal life through me. Nothing can harm that. Nothing.”

“My brothers and sisters, it is not easy to be a Christian because when you are a Christian, you have to take chances. You have to go out the doors of this church and love others in the same way that Jesus loved loved his disciples as God loves us. Democrats, you have to love Republicans. And Republicans, you have to love Democrats. I see some of you shaking head. You can't do that. You can't do that. You can disagree with each other, but you're to love each other. That's the gospel. That ain't easy.”

“He loves the Romans. He healed the centurion's slave, and yet those Romans would kill him. He loved the Samaritans and told his disciples that they are children of God as well when they were despised and they were hated. My brothers and sisters, it is not easy to be a Christian because when you are a Christian, you have to take chances. You have to go out the doors of this church and love others in the same way that Jesus loved loved his disciples as God loves us.”
