Bible ReadingColossians 3:12–4:1 “Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality. Masters, treat your bondservants justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.”
[28:10]Colossians 2:13–14 “And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.”
[36:24]Ephesians 5:18–6:9 “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’ (this is the first commandment with a promise), ‘that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.’ Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free. Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.”

[50:41]Observation questions- In Colossians 3:12–14, what qualities are believers told to “put on,” and what command is placed above all the others?
- What reason does Paul give for forgiving someone who has a complaint against another person? How does Colossians 2:13–14 describe the forgiveness believers have received? [36:24]
- According to Colossians 3:15–17, what actions and attitudes are connected to Christ’s peace and Christ’s word dwelling richly among the church?

Interpretation questions- Paul says that believers are chosen, holy, and dearly loved before commanding them to put on Christlike character. How does being secure in God’s love change the reason believers pursue compassion, humility, patience, and love?
- Paul connects forgiving others with the full cancellation of believers’ debt through Christ. What does it mean to forgive someone without pretending that their sin, harm, or injustice was insignificant? [36:52]

- Is there someone whose wrong against you still feels like a debt they owe you? What would it look like to begin releasing that debt to the Lord, while still taking wise steps where trust, safety, or accountability are needed? [36:52]
- Love keeps Christian character from becoming a performance. Are there places where doing good can become more about being noticed, being right, or controlling outcomes than loving people? How can your motives be redirected toward Christlike love? [37:33]
- Is there a conflict, unhealthy pattern, or unaddressed sin in a relationship where avoiding the issue has not actually produced peace? What could truthful, humble, and loving conversation look like? [40:57]
- What ordinary task—at home, at work, at school, or in caring for others—feels boring or unnoticed right now? How might doing it wholeheartedly for the Lord change your attitude and effort this week? [44:38]
