David says in Psalm 37 that the child of God has got to learn how to take hands off of it and put it in God’s hands. Psalm 37:5 does not call for a casual mention in prayer, followed by picking the burden back up on Monday morning. The word “commit” means to roll it away, to cast that heavy thing onto the God who can carry heavy stuff.
The flesh wants control. The flesh wants to manage the outcome, defend a reputation, answer every lie, and settle every score. David knew outhouse trouble, in house trouble, and around the way trouble. Saul threw javelins, Ahithophel cut deep, and Absalom turned against his own father. David’s life shows that trouble does not make anybody exempt from trusting God.
The command to commit “your way” reaches deeper than a circumstance. David calls for the surrender of the way a person thinks, plans, reacts, and tries to get even. The way of the flesh still knows how to fight, curse, scheme, and prove points. God calls His people to lay their own little way down and pick up His way, because God cannot fight while His child insists on fighting.
The promise “He shall bring it to pass” places the whole matter in God’s providential hands. God’s timing does not run by human deadlines. The world has winter, spring, summer, and fall, but the believer also lives by due season. God may be working beneath the soil when nothing has sprouted to the surface. God knows where His children live, knows what they need, and knows how to get it to them.
The God who brought Isaac after twenty-five years, opened the Red Sea, brought down Jericho’s walls, and raised Christ from the grave is still a bring-it-to-pass God. Hard valleys do not mean God’s hand has left the process. God can get His child to the destination on a mountaintop or through a valley.
David also promises public vindication. God not only brings it to pass privately, but brings it forth publicly. God can make righteousness shine like the light and justice like the noonday. Humility does not hide what God has done. Humility remembers who done it. Some wrongs may not be made right until Christ returns, but God’s people keep praying, keep doing right, keep caring about injustice, and keep lifting up Jesus with tears in their eyes if necessary.

Key Takeaways
- 1. Roll the burden onto God The command to commit does not mean carrying a burden with religious language attached to it. The burden has to be rolled away from human strength and placed into God’s strength. God is a good receiver, able to catch what His children cast and handle it better than they ever could. [45:49]
- 2. Surrender more than the circumstance David says to commit “your way,” because the deeper problem is often the flesh’s plan for handling pain. The desire to retaliate, control, and prove a point can make a hard situation even messier. God calls for surrendered thoughts, motives, timelines, and personal blueprints. [47:36]
- 3. Trust God’s due season Providence does not move according to the deadlines people give God. God may be doing His deepest work beneath the soil, in places no human eye can see. Due season teaches faithfulness without visible proof and patience without immediate relief. [53:09]
- 4. God brings it to pass God’s record stretches from Isaac’s birth to Israel’s deliverance, from Jericho’s walls to Christ’s resurrection. God does not abandon what He has purposed, even when the process includes waiting, tears, or valleys. The promise rests on God’s character, not on favorable circumstances. [55:19]
- 5. God will vindicate His people God can bring private deliverance into public view, making righteousness shine as bright as noonday. Public testimony is not pride when it gives God the credit for what He has done. Some justice waits for Christ’s return, but faithful trust refuses to become silent, bitter, or insensitive to suffering.
