Real life, pure life begins with a man finding out that the old way does not have to govern the new covenant. The yard sale hose becomes the picture: a person can keep going back to what upbringing taught, even while God has brought that person into something new. God says the promises are yes and amen in Christ, and that means the believer does not have to live like the only option is used, broken, and leaking.

First John declares that everyone born of God is victorious and overcomes the world through continuing, persistent faith in Jesus Christ. That victory has to settle in the soul before the situation changes. Sickness, money trouble, trials, hurt, and pressure do not get the last word, because in Christ the old has passed away and all things have become new.
