#RepentBeyondConsequences
“``So what does David do? He realizes that his sin is a big deal. He confesses it to God. And he doesn't just confess that he's sorry for the consequences of his actions. It's like, God, like, I'm so sorry that now people are mad at me. God, I'm so sorry that, like, this stuff is happening in the kingdom now. Knows what he does. He confesses what he did. He confesses the action, not the result of the action, not the consequences. See, that's what repentance is. Repentance isn't merely grieving the consequences of sin. It's grieving the sin itself and the damage that it causes to God and to others.”

#HeartChangeNotPerformance
“David doesn't say, God, give me another chance. God, let me try again. No. What does David say? David says, change me at the heart level. Like, do something in my heart, because my heart needs to be clean. My heart is what needs to be changed. It's not that I need better behavior. It's not that I need better performance. It's not that I just need to wake up and say my daily affirmations, and I won't mess up again, God. No. God, I need my heart changed. And this is what repentance is. Repentance is me desiring change at the heart's level.”

#TrueRepentanceChangesYou
“Pastor Nay, I did repent. I did repent. I just said I wanna do better next time. That's not repentance if you don't desire deep change within yourself. David says, I want a clean heart for me. The word repentance literally means a change of mind. So if I'm gonna repent, it has to be a change. This is what repentance does. It changes what you think, so I view my sin different. It changes what I love, so I have a different feeling towards my sin. And it changes how I live.”

#SinLeadsToBrokenness
“So here's what sin doesn't tell us. Here's what temptation doesn't tell us. Is that on the other side of our sin is brokenness and shame and emptiness. And David right now is living on the other side of his sin, in his brokenness, in his shame, in his emptiness. And this is what he says, God, would you restore the joy of your salvation to me? You see, friends, we can be like David. And we can act like, oh, it's not a big deal. It's not whatever. Listen, sin makes life hard. Sin makes life complicated. And it's God's kindness that leads us to repentance. It's God's kindness that shows us that there is a better way.”
