Sin is not treated like a tiny checklist of do’s and do nots. Sin is shown as transgression, fracture, sickness, decay, and that ugly thing that turns a person against God, others, and even the self. Jesus does not come merely to improve behavior or make religious people mind their p’s and q’s. Jesus comes to seek and save the lost, heal the sick, cover sin, forgive guilt, and rebirth honesty in the heart.

David knows what happens when sin gets locked up in silence. Silence makes the bones waste away, turns the heart into a pressure cooker, and leaves the body feeling like strength has been sapped in the heat of summer. Shame does not stay politely in the emotions. Shame settles into the brain, the heart, and the body, and it starts running its nasty little script.
