#FearOfGod
“``This is a positional identity. This is saying, God, I am here and you are here. Right? That's the fear of the Lord. It's acknowledging that I am not God, that He is God, and He has the ability to be God and he has the rightful place of being God. It's just that sense. That's what the fear of the Lord is. Without that, we become God ourselves and that's where we get into massive foolishness. Think about that because that's true culturally as well as individually. The further that we get from the fear of God, the more foolish we become. So the beginning of wisdom is to get in that position of understanding what it means to fear God. It's not an emotion. It's not like, oh, God. Don't hit me. Don't hit me. It's I understand who I am, God, and who you are and you are in the right place.”

#SpiritFilledWisdom
“Last thing about this section is we wanna bring New Testament realities into Old Testament passages. So every time when we read and study stuff in the Old Testament where Proverbs is for instance, we have to remember that now since the cross, we live in this different reality of Jesus actually sending the Holy Spirit to live in us. So we're not reading Proverbs as people who are trying to strive to get to God. We're reading Proverbs as people who have the power of the Holy Spirit living in us. Now how do we carry it out, God? That's an important difference”

#WisdomTakesTime
“we're told that something is really a good and a wise thing, and we say, okay. Well, then that's guaranteed. Then if I do that, God will take care of me, I'll be fine. Right? And then we go along in life and we're like, I'm doing it. Where's the result? I don't see the result. It seems like it was supposed to be a promise to me. But one of the things that we fail to see there is that issue of the time frame. Oftentimes, we do see a good result, but there's a period of time. There's a lag between when we started actually doing things well and being wise and when we actually saw good results. And that impatience, it burns us a lot. It has burned me a number of times.”

#PracticalProverbs
“one of the best ways to read Proverbs is to say, What can I learn from this observation? Because much of what the book of Proverbs is is the observations of wise people. Especially older people, they've gone through enough that they say, you know, this is a good way to do something. So if they say that, it doesn't necessarily mean it's a formula like, that's it. Do this and you've got it. You've got everything. You've got the best marriage. You've got prosperity. You've everything. Just do this. It's not that. It's this is something we've observed that works well.”
