Hebrews gives a plain and powerful answer to the question, “Who is Jesus?” Paul calls the Son “the radiance of God’s glory” and “the exact representation of his being.” Jesus is not just a good teacher, a good man, or another prophet. Jesus is the Son of God, God in the flesh, the one who sustains all things by his powerful word.

Images of Jesus may look different around the world. Jesus may be pictured as Filipino, Black, Hispanic, young, old, or even blonde with blue eyes. But Jesus does not need anybody’s consent to be who he is. God told Moses, “I am who I am,” and Jesus stands in that same truth. Jesus is who he says he is.

Jesus calls himself the bread of life. The bread of life feeds more than the flesh. Jesus, the Word of God, feeds the spirit and keeps the soul alive even after death. Fruits, vegetables, and gummies may help the body, but only Jesus gives the life that death cannot take away.

Jesus calls himself the light of the world. People spend their lives stuck in dark tunnels, always trying to reach some light at the end. Jesus does not merely promise light somewhere far away. Jesus says, “Follow me,” because he is the light. Even when human beings get lost, the light of the world remains there to lead them.

Jesus calls himself the good shepherd and the gate for the sheep. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep, and Jesus did exactly that. Jesus fights for his people when they cannot fight for themselves. Jesus guards the door, watches over the home, and gives his people reason to rest.

Jesus calls himself the resurrection and the life, the way, the truth, and the life, and the true vine. Death is not the end for those who believe in him, because life after death is not an oxymoron. It is a miracle. Jesus alone brings people to the Father, and a real church is not defined by great music, friendly people, or a polished appearance. The real church is the one that preaches Jesus.

Jesus died for sin so that sinners could be forgiven. Christ rose from the dead, and Christ will come again. Jesus already told the world who he is. The real question is whether people will accept him as he is, or keep chasing something that is not real.
