#PossessionsOverPresence
“He wanted the possessions of the father without the presence of the father. Can I tell you that that's that's a look into the heart of sin because the heart of sin tends to want God's blessings without God, tends to want God's provision without God's presence, Tends to want God's promises without God's authority? That's what the heart of sin does. I want all the benefits of God, but I don't wanna be near him. I don't want his word to tell me what I should do and what I shouldn't do. I just wanna be able to just go to the far country. I wanna be able to take all my stuff and leave so that I've got from the father what is due me.”

#FarCountryTrap
“See, he he left home carrying everything that he thought would make him free, but the far country, whenever you get away from God, it has a way of taking things from you. He leaves, he wastes, he loses, he lacks, he becomes enslaved because the far country initially looks like freedom, but eventually it becomes bondage. Some of us in this room, we've been in the far country.”

#RepentanceThroughReality
“But there's this one thing that when it sets in, it makes things a little bit clearer, and that's this thing called reality. Reality began to set in for him. He began to see that I'm not just hungry, but I'm no one. I believe the same thing happens with repentance that true repentance begins when we stop believing the lie, whatever the lie is in my life or in your life, and we recognize where our choices have taken us.”

#InheritanceAsRejection
“I have a feeling for the first time some of you just connected Luke chapter 15 to Deuteronomy chapter 21. Does that not give a little more oomph to the message, to the words written in red? Because see, that mosaic law, under the law of Moses, a father could bring those rebellious sons before the elders and then they would do that. And so, here is what you have to understand. When a younger son said, I want my inheritance now, he was saying, you might as well be dead. That was how society at the time took that and so this part in verse 12, this isn't some neutral financial transaction this is a deliberate statement that the son wanted the father gone.”

#FreedomBecomesSlavery
“Freedom without the father becomes slavery. I touched on it a little bit during worship that there was that time frame that I was I was with the father, then I got away from the father. And man was I bound, man was I in bondage, man was it like, because here's what happened during that season where I stopped going to church, I stopped serving God, I stopped praying, I stopped reading my Bible. Here's the thing that happened. The Holy Spirit kept bugging me.”

#HolySpiritPersistent
“Here's another thing that we learn about this younger son is that he discovered that freedom without the father becomes slavery. Freedom without the father becomes slavery.
