The ache for home runs deeper than earthly roofs. It’s the soul’s cry for the Father’s table where mercy covers every scar. Jesus promised troubled hearts a dwelling beyond decay, where peace isn’t temporary but eternal. This longing isn’t weakness—it’s the compass needle quivering toward true north. David called it a single desire: to live forever where God’s beauty outshines every shadow. That prepared place isn’t geography. It’s a Person. [33:21]

One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. (Psalm 27:4, ESV)

Day 2: Swine’s husks and the taste of want

Worldly satisfaction crumbles like stale bread—it fills the mouth but starves the spirit. Yet that gnawing hunger is grace’s alarm bell. While we rehearse apologies, He’s already calling for the feast. Our rags of self-sufficiency fall as He wraps us in Christ’s righteousness. The ring seals our place as heirs, not hired hands. The promise of home starts with the Lord having somewhere prepared for His people. Christ says, “Let not your heart be troubled,” because home with Him is a place where trouble does not get the last word. Paul says the troubled can “rest with us” when the Lord Jesus is revealed, and the name of the Lord stands like a strong tower where the righteous run in and are safe.

The Lord is still good, still faithful, and still able to satisfy the soul.

The prodigal’s hunger brings him to himself. The father’s house has “bread enough and to spare,” and the son finally turns home with confession on his lips. The father does not make him lesser than; the father puts the best robe on him, a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. James says, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you,” and Isaiah says the wicked can forsake his way and return because the Lord will abundantly pardon.

Ephesians says the accepted place is “in the beloved.” God does not accept sin, but God receives sinners into Christ, cleans them up, and makes them part of the household. The gathering of all things in Christ points toward the true homecoming, when heaven and earth are brought together in Him. The Holy Ghost stands as the earnest of the inheritance, God’s own pledge that He is serious about redeeming the purchased possession.
