Pressing In: It's Never Too Late for Jesus
Summary
In Luke 4:40, as the sun was setting and the day was nearly over, people brought all who were sick and afflicted to Jesus. He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them. This moment was not a carefully orchestrated event, but rather a spontaneous, desperate act of faith by people who refused to wait for a more convenient time. They didn’t let the lateness of the hour, the exhaustion of the day, or the opinions of others keep them from bringing their needs to Jesus. Instead, they pressed in, believing that even at the end of the day, Jesus was still able and willing to heal, restore, and deliver.
This passage reminds us that Jesus is never too busy, never too tired, and never too late. The world may say the sun is setting, that it’s too late for hope, too late for healing, too late for restoration. But Jesus defies our timetables and expectations. He welcomes those who come to Him, no matter how desperate or delayed their situation may seem. The stories of the woman with the issue of blood, the friends who tore the roof off to get to Jesus, and the children brought to Him all echo this truth: Jesus never turns away those who come in faith, regardless of the hour.
The enemy would have us believe that our best days are behind us, that our families, ministries, or dreams are too far gone. But God is a restorer. He is not limited by the lateness of the hour or the depth of our need. Even when it seems like all hope is lost, Jesus is able to bring resurrection where we only expected healing, to bring revival where we only saw decline. The call is to refuse the lies of the enemy, to reject the notion that it’s too late, and to boldly bring every need, every broken dream, every lost loved one to Jesus.
Now is not the time to sit back or give up. The setting of the sun is not a signal to stop believing, but an invitation to press in even more. God is still working, still healing, still saving. It’s not too late for a miracle, a fresh start, or a renewed vision. Bring it all to Jesus—He is ready and able to meet every need.
Key Takeaways
- Faith Moves Beyond Convenience and Timing
The people in Luke 4:40 didn’t wait for the perfect moment or for Jesus to initiate a healing campaign. They brought their needs to Him at a time that seemed inconvenient and late. True faith is not hindered by the hour or by protocol; it presses in, even when it seems like the opportunity has passed. [03:31]
- Jesus Never Turns Away the Desperate
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus consistently welcomes those who come to Him, regardless of their timing or the opinions of others. Whether it’s the woman pushing through the crowd or children being brought to Him, He never rebukes sincere seekers. No matter how late it feels in your life or situation, Jesus is always ready to receive and respond. [05:45]
- The Lateness of the Hour Is Not a Limitation for God
The setting sun in this passage symbolizes situations that seem too far gone or too late for change. Yet, Jesus demonstrates that He is not bound by our clocks or deadlines. What appears to be the end to us is often the very moment God chooses to move in power, bringing healing, restoration, and even resurrection. [10:22]
- Refuse the Lies of the Enemy About ‘Too Late’
The enemy’s strategy is to convince us that our situation, our family, or our calling is beyond hope. But God’s word and His actions declare the opposite: it is never too late for Him to restore, revive, and renew. We must actively reject the voice that says “it’s too late” and instead believe in God’s ability to redeem any circumstance. [12:24]
- Boldly Bring Every Need to Jesus, No Matter What
The people didn’t wait for an invitation or for the perfect conditions—they simply brought their loved ones to Jesus. This kind of bold, even “reckless” faith is what God honors. Don’t let fear of what others think, or the seeming impossibility of your need, keep you from coming to Jesus. He is the answer, and everything changes when we bring it all to Him. [19:00]

Devotional
Day 1: Jesus Welcomes All Who Come to Him
No matter the time or circumstance, Jesus never turns away those who come to Him with their needs. The people in Luke 4:40 brought their sick and suffering loved ones to Jesus, not waiting for a perfect moment or a special invitation. They simply came, desperate and hopeful, and Jesus responded with compassion, laying His hands on every one of them and healing them all. There was no rebuke, no delay, and no one was considered too far gone. Jesus’ heart is always open to those who seek Him, and He delights in meeting us right where we are, no matter how broken or desperate our situation may seem. [00:35]
Luke 4:40 (ESV)
"Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them."
Reflection: What need or burden are you carrying today that you have hesitated to bring to Jesus? Will you bring it to Him now, trusting that He welcomes you just as you are?
Day 2: It’s Never Too Late for Jesus to Move
Even when it seems too late by human standards, Jesus is never late and never out of reach. The setting sun in Luke 4:40 symbolizes the lateness of the hour, yet the people did not let that stop them from seeking Jesus. Throughout Scripture, we see that Jesus is not bound by our sense of timing—He brings hope, healing, and miracles even when others say it’s too late. The enemy may whisper that your situation is hopeless or that you’ve missed your chance, but Jesus is always on time and always able to restore, heal, and deliver. [10:22]
John 6:37 (ESV)
"All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out."
Reflection: Where in your life have you believed it’s “too late” for God to work? Will you dare to hope again and bring that situation to Jesus today?
Day 3: Bold Faith Defies Doubt and Delay
The people who brought their loved ones to Jesus did not let obstacles, opinions, or the lateness of the hour stop them. Their boldness and determination to seek Jesus, even when it seemed inconvenient or illogical, resulted in miraculous breakthroughs. Faith sometimes means pushing past what others think, ignoring the voice of doubt, and refusing to wait for a more “sensible” time. God honors those who come to Him with persistent, expectant faith, believing that He is able to do what seems impossible. [03:31]
Mark 2:4-5 (ESV)
"And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, 'Son, your sins are forgiven.'"
Reflection: What step of bold faith can you take today, even if it feels inconvenient or risky, to bring yourself or someone you love closer to Jesus?
Day 4: Don’t Let the Enemy Steal Your Hope
The enemy will try to convince you that your dreams are dead, your family is too far gone, or your best days are behind you. But God is a restorer—He revives dreams, renews vision, and brings breakthrough even in the darkest moments. Refuse to accept the lie that it’s too late or that you are disqualified. Instead, stand firm in faith, knowing that God’s power is greater than any setback, and that He delights in restoring what has been lost or broken. [12:24]
Joel 2:25 (ESV)
"I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you."
Reflection: What hope or dream have you let go of because you believed it was too late? Will you ask God to restore your hope and renew your vision today?
Day 5: Bring Others to Jesus—Now Is the Time
The lateness of the hour is not a reason to hold back; it is a call to action. The people in Luke 4 did not wait for a perfect moment or a special event—they brought their loved ones to Jesus right then, trusting that He could meet their needs. In these days, when the world seems dark and time feels short, it is more important than ever to bring our families, friends, and communities to Jesus. Don’t wait for a better time—pray, invite, and intercede for those who need Him now. [17:14]
2 Corinthians 6:2 (ESV)
"For he says, 'In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.' Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation."
Reflection: Who in your life needs to be brought to Jesus today? How can you take a practical step to pray for them, reach out, or invite them to encounter Him this week?
Quotes
If I'm seeing this right, it's more of an impromptu, people -driven, people -kind of coordinated, needs -based prayer time that the people brought to Jesus as they brought their needs of their brothers and sisters and friends and family to the Lord that day. This was not that I could see initiated by the Lord. This was brought about by hungry, thirsty, God -needing people. [00:02:58]
people that needed help people that had loved ones that needed help people that had had probably tried doctors tried all the helps that were available but but they had come up short and here they have the occasion now to bring these people to the Lord it was love for them and a zeal for them and desire and passion for them it's kind of like the four friends that brought their friend to Jesus they couldn't get in the house so they they tore the roof off the house and they brought they brought the friend to Jesus it was was that kind of love that kind of sacrifice that that these family members husbands wives brothers sisters friends would have brought these people to the Lord and you know you know you could almost look at it like in one sense well maybe they were maybe they were taking advantage of the Lord here maybe maybe this was maybe this was not a really a great time for for this to take place but we don't see any any even inference of a rebuke or a scold or correction we don't see any any kind of conversation as to well this is not a good time not a good place we it we'll get to this later there's none of that all we do is we we see the Lord actually fulfilling what he said when he said if you'll come unto me all that labor and heavy laden and I'll give you rest and then John see John 5 or 6 he said coming to me and I will in no wise cast you out this was exactly the fulfillment it was the same principle that what he was saying if you will come as you are like you are if you'll bring your needs to me I've got time for you I I want to help you I want to be here for you I want to be I want to be the Savior that you need me to be no doubt you've tried other things other the lady with the issue of blood 12 years spent all she had she didn't get any help she went to the Lord that day and it she she pushed through the crowd y 'all all know but not a new story pushed through the crowd probably made people mad got on people's nerves but but she she stretched herself and she it was there was a little bit of a violence associated with her getting through the crowd and the people to get to the Lord that day and as she got to the Lord the Lord didn't scold her or buker he didn't say you we don't have time for this you think about when they they brought the little children to Jesus the disciples even said Lord you know wait we don't we don't really have time for these kids to come and the Lord said suffer and suffer come forbid I'm not and that that was the whole principle of Jesus people that need help they can get help from Jesus the whole thing here is if you've got a need you can come and it didn't look like necessarily the right time and I'm going to get to that here just a minute but Jesus said come and he didn't disappoint the people when they came he prayed for them and he healed every single one of them there was not a life that was not touched by the power of God it didn't matter the severity of the need it didn't matter how lost they were didn't matter how stubborn the devil was it didn't matter how the depth of the disease that was in their bodies all that we know it says he laid hands on every one of them and healed them because that is a powerful mighty Jesus they can take the the worst case [00:03:31]
of man he can take the worst cases that what the devil is messed up people's lives with disease and and and sin and agony and shipwreck and sorrow and the Lord can lay hands on those people and set those people free how many appreciates a God that can do that kind of thing he's a powerful God that can set people free today he didn't rebuke him he said come on and they had a little impromptu healing crusade right there and he healed every single one of them incredible what probably one of the better crusades of all the Gospels we see every single one was healed not one was turned away not one was too hard of a case not one was too messed up not one was too lost not one single one was didn't meet the criteria for the Lord to help them that day the Lord just offered his help to them every single one and they were touched but my message really comes from this first line of this 40th verse if you have your Bible still open brother Bob keep that up there for us if you would please sir when the Sun was setting when the Sun was setting another translation says the setting of the Sun that's referring to being late in the day it's a late hour in the day Sun's going down the day's almost over times almost stop it's about to get dark it surely doesn't look like a what wise time to be bringing people to the Lord at the end of the day we sung the song joy comes in the morning and I know there are people that have that await to the morning there will be people here at this at this time if they'd have listened to that verse and they said well it's evening time and it's late and the Sun's going down we got to wait to the morning I'm glad somebody didn't wait till the morning I'm glad somebody says the Sun may be going down but Jesus [00:07:05]
is still a powerful God. It may be getting late in the day, but He's still a healer. It may be an hour is late, but He's still a powerful God that can heal and save and deliver. And they weren't moved by how late it was. They weren't intimidated by the lateness of the hour or the sun going down or it's not the right time or it didn't make sense. They say, come on, let's go to church. Come on, let's go meet Jesus. Come on, let's go get a healing. Come on, let's go get help from Jesus today. [00:08:58]
He may want to get a fresh start. We don't want to trouble the master. If you think about that, that's even Martha and Mary. They said, you come too late, Lord. When he was going to pray for Jairus' son, they came and told him, it's too late. He's already died. But how many knows Jesus never comes too late? It may seem like it's late according to our clock, but Jesus is never late. Jesus is always on time. This was a late hour that day, but Jesus was up to the challenge. And I tell you, he's up to the challenge today. He may be late in your life. It may be a late situation. [00:09:45]
Don't get your hopes up. Too late to trouble the master. Too late to look. Too late to believe for anything special and good. It's too late. You're too far down the road. The devil will lie to you. The devil will try to paint a bleak picture to you and tell you don't get your hopes up. It's too late for healing. You're too far gone. You've got too many troubles. The family's too much messed up. The kids are too far gone. I come to say today the devil is a liar and it's not too late. Jesus can move. Jesus can still heal. Jesus can still save. Bring him to Jesus. Bring him to the Lord because he still works today. [00:10:36]
Your health is not too far gone. God's a restorer. He's a restorer. He can restore health and energy and youth and vitality and ministry and anointing. He's a restoring God. I wish I had some help right now. He's a restoring God. He'll give it back. He'll add to it. [00:12:24]
Just keep our hopes down and our expectations down and keep our dreams down. Come on, somebody. Come on. Your dream is not dead. Your vision is not over. Come on. Your ministry is not over. Your anointing is not gone. It's not too late for you. [00:12:55]
You may feel like your prayers are not going to come to fruition. Come on, don't give up on your prayer. You may feel like your ministry is in a standstill. Don't give up on the ministry. You may feel like revival is nonexistent. Don't give up on revival. It is not too late. There's a revival in the land. There's a revival in the church. There's a revival in your family, in your home, in your children. You have a revival in your home, in your family. There's a revival in your family. [00:14:57]
The odds are against you. It doesn't matter. If God is for you, it doesn't matter how many odds are against you. Doesn't matter. [00:16:13]
feet square in the ground, throw our shoulders back and tell them, it is not too late. Come on, it may be late, but it's not too late. It may be a late time of the day of the world, but it's not too late. I'm growing in God. My family will have revival. Our church is growing. Come on, it's breakthrough time. [00:16:35]
We're not ignorant of that. We know it's the end times. We do know. The sun is setting for the world. [00:17:24]
But the setting of the sun is a good time to bring people to Jesus. [00:17:28]
We don't try to get our families to Jesus. We don't try to get the lost people of our city to Jesus. We say, well, the world, you know what it is, what it is. Nobody wants to hear it anymore. Nobody loves the Lord anymore. The gospel is outdated and old -fashioned. It's a dinosaur. Nobody cares anymore. Those are lies from the pit of hell. I'm telling you, somebody cares. Somebody will listen. Somebody will hear you. Somebody will receive it. Come on, preach anyhow. Love anyhow. Pray anyhow. Believe anyhow. [00:17:58]
this we'll never get over this we'll never get around it'll never change it'll never get any better I'll never get better in my body I'll never get it there's no bad thought like that kind of thought but Jesus says come on bring it to me and I'll help you with it you know what I like about I like this whole story this morning but I especially I'm preaching on the lateness of the hour don't worry about the lateness just come but I especially like this part this stands out to me again the people didn't wait for Jesus they went to Jesus they didn't wait Dale for the Lord to call well let's all get a crusade going we'll wait three weeks and promote it we'll go out and knock doors to get it on Facebook and that's all good but the people didn't wait on that they just went they went right to the source brother Franklin they went right to Jesus and they say Jesus here's my baby Jesus here's my husband Jesus here's my wife Jesus here's my child you [00:19:10]
Jesus here's my neighbor Jesus here's come on Jesus lay your hands on him and when he does everything changes everything changes I don't know but I think something needs to get a hold of us some kind of don't take this wrong but I don't care spirit I don't care what hell says or what hell thinks or what somebody else across town things or for that matter I don't care what somebody in this church may think because they may laugh at me they'll laugh all the way to me getting my miracle they may make fun of me they'll make fun all the way to me getting my breakthrough they may they may scorn me but they'll scorn all the way to me getting what God has for me come on somebody get an attitude this come on it's Jesus or nothing else it's Jesus nothing else matters but Jesus nothing else matters but Jesus he is what you need he is your healer he is your savior he is your helper thank you come on let's come and pray y 'all I'm gonna be down here but we're gonna pray for some people come on everybody [00:20:22]
But it's not too late for the Lord to work. It's not too late for God to move. It's not too late for a miracle. I'm preaching it's not too late for you to get a miracle. It's not too late for you to get a fresh start. A renewed vision. Come on, a fresh anointing. It is not too late. [00:21:42]
