#FullnessOfJoyInGod
“``Well, there's not there's not a single person in here who doesn't want to experience the fullness of joy and pleasures forevermore. I know that's true. That's true of all of us because that actually It's one of the things that drives almost all the decisions that we make in life. If you think about why you do the things that you do. I think about my own life and things that I did. Like, I honestly, I thought that golf I thought I was gonna be a professional golfer and I thought that was going to lead me into the fullness of joy because it was gonna give me this career that was going to give me all this money and I was gonna have everything I needed. That did not happen. And when it didn't, I'll tell you, I was left devastated. I was crushed because you were never meant to find the fullness of joy in things like that. And so when I heard these words, that it does not get more full than full and it does not get longer than forever, that there is the fullness of joy is found only in the presence of God, that hit me different.”

#ChasingValidation
“And so the question I have is like, you know, what actually causes us to run after other gods? Like, we know that because like, we're all like, yeah. Okay. Like, that makes sense. Like, why? Why do we do it? I think it actually just it goes back to verse two. We don't truly believe that God is our greatest good and and that he won't actually satisfy our deepest desires that we have right now. You know, maybe we we have this desire to be wanted by others and so we run to social media to try and present ourselves and our lives in a certain way or we try to maybe change our looks or we try to change our behavior, you know, because we believe that others' approval and their validation is our greatest good, and so we're gonna do whatever we can to get it.”

#HolinessIsLife
“Right? And this is actually how it's been from the very beginning even in the Garden of Eden. Right? To trust God's word and obey him is what leads to life and life to the full. I always joke around with our students sometimes. I say, you know, if anyone knows how to live life, it's the one who created. Right? And so we should probably listen. Like, he's not trying to lead you to death. He's the one who created life. He's trying to lead you into it. That's why holiness is not a burden. It's a blessing to be like him because he's leading you into life. But for those who chase after other gods and serve them and worship them, their sorrows will multiply and they will ultimately perish.”

#PurposeBeyondCareer
“Or maybe we have, you know, this desire of of purpose in life, and so we find ourselves putting everything we have into our career. Or for me, it was golf. You know? Like, I mean, whatever it might be, you're trying to find your purpose in this thing. And so it's like you you dive as as hard as you can into this one thing. You think, as long as I can just get to the end of that, then I'm gonna be satisfied. That's gonna bring me into the fullness of joy. That's gonna be when my life is finally satisfied. But all of these things that we that we find ourselves running after can only offer temporary satisfaction to an eternal longing that you have.”

#MoreThanWordsFaith
“And this is something that like sometimes I feel like we can we can feel like, man, we we wanna say that. You know? Like, and and it could be sometimes it could be easy to say like, yes, Lord. You are the thing that I desire. There's nothing on this earth that I desire more. But do we actually like, but do we truly believe that? Do we truly believe that we have no good apart from God on this earth? That there's nothing on the earth that we desire more than him? Like I said, I think we'd like to say yes. Oftentimes, I think we find ourselves saying the right thing when deep down in our hearts we know that that's not what we truly feel or how we're actually even living in the world.”

#WholeheartedAllegiance
“And so when David says that the sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply, this is coming out of his meditation on God's law. Right? He knows that wholehearted allegiance to God, loving him with all his heart, all his soul, with all his might. This is this is not this is not like he's gonna gain just a bunch of material blessing or something like that, but he's like, this is the path that actually leads to life. Because Moses said, I've set before you today life and good, death and evil. To follow my command is what's gonna lead you to life. To run after other gods, that's gonna lead like, that's gonna lead to sorrow and ultimately death and destruction.”

#WhatYouTrulyValue
“Like, we can say it, but then you kinda just feel it's like, it's just like not really true. And we wanna say yes. Like, there's everything pales in comparison to the Lord. And, but yet even as we're saying it, there's things that, like, even well up within us that we know we desire more, things that maybe even consume our minds as we're trying to go to sleep at night or things where, you know, when you're walking around just throughout your day and you see someone who has the thing that you actually so badly desire, the thing that you think is gonna actually bring about the fullness of joy in your life. You see that and you get jealous and you're like, I just like, I want that. I do desire that and I know it. It's so easy to say the right thing and to say I have no good apart from God, but do we really believe? Because here's the thing, whatever we actually believe is our greatest good is what we believe is gonna bring us into the satisfaction and joy filled life that we want.”

#DevotedToGod
“Now when the when the lord delivered Israel out of the land of Egypt and he established his covenant with, with them, he called them into faithfully following him and worshiping him alone that they might be a blessing to all the nations. Right? He called them to love him with all their heart, with all their soul, and with all their might, and to not run after other gods, but be wholly devoted to him because this is what was going to lead them to life and flourishing in the promised land. It was for their good.”
