“``Jesus tells us right here from the beginning, you are going to be opposed. You are not always going to be received well in my name. The good that you sometimes do for me will get you hostility. Be ready for that. And how are we to be ready for that if we don't practice the skills of being a Christian, if we don't engage in the teamwork of those who are also disciples and learn from one another. Mount Zion family, today I remind you, we do not go out into the world in Jesus name alone. God sends us out with families and church families to love us as God's precious treasure.”

“``In sports, a good competition, having an opponent provides the opportunity to grow skills, to build teamwork, and to become better at a sport through practice. As we hear Jesus' words today, I ask you, are we committed to the same effort of growing skills, teamwork, and the practices of the Christian faith? such growth experiences to thrive as Christians. Jesus tells us right here from the beginning, you are going to be opposed. You are not always going to be received well in my name. The good that you sometimes do for me will get you hostility. Be ready for that.”

“``Summer is a great time to review what you are doing at home, to hone your skills, and develop practices of discipleship. Daily practice sessions of prayer, learning about God through scripture, serving, sharing with others are at the heart of our skill development. Such practices take us from just hearing that we are God's precious treasure and sent out into the world to being God's precious treasure. Having that truth planted within us and then inspiring us to go and do the very things that show off the face of Christ.”
