God has promotion for all His people, and it is time to prepare. Psalm 75 says promotion does not come from the East or the West or the South, but God is the judge. God puts down one and sets up another. That settles the heart, because the CEO, the boss, the manager, the president, or any human person is not the final judge. God is the one who opens the right place at the right time.
Promotion is not always what people think it is. Promotion may come with a title, pay, position, or authority, but it may also come as an opportunity, an added responsibility, or an invitation to a table that was not open before. God may give a person a place to use gifts before any honor is attached to it. The believer who only values position, title, esteem, or pay may miss the very package God is using to prepare the heart.
The call to prepare begins with alignment to the will of God. Jesus prayed, “Not my will, but yours be done,” and that same posture has to govern every aspiration. Not every open door is the Lord, because the devil opens doors too, and that is called temptation. The Spirit leads God’s people, so every opportunity must be brought before the Lord with the question, “Is this what You want?”
Faithfulness is the first mark of preparation. Jesus says, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You were faithful over a few things. I will make you ruler over many things.” God does not need a person to do something big in order to impress Him. God looks at whether a person will do what is in His heart and in His mind with what has already been placed in the hand.
Humility also comes before honor. Proverbs says, “Before honor is humility,” and Jesus says the one who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted. Christ is the perfect example, because He made Himself of no reputation, took the form of a servant, humbled Himself to death on a cross, and therefore God highly exalted Him.
Diligence, effectiveness, purity of heart, and lips of grace complete the preparation. Joseph served with excellence even as a slave, and Potiphar’s house was blessed because Joseph was there. Proverbs says the one who excels in his work will stand before kings, and the one who loves purity of heart and has grace on his lips will have the king as his friend. God’s people are called to bless what belongs to another, serve as unto the Lord, and trust the Judge to reward in due time.

Key Takeaways
- 1. God is the real judge Psalm 75 takes the pressure off human systems and puts the heart back before God. Promotion does not finally come from networking, manipulating, hinting, or trying to work the ladder. The believer can do what God has assigned and trust that God knows where each person belongs. [19:32]
- 2. Promotion comes in hidden packages Promotion may arrive without a title, a raise, or public honor. God may offer added responsibility, a seat at a table, or a chance to use gifts in a way that stretches the soul. A person who despises small opportunities may be despising the very preparation God has sent. [25:24]
- 3. Faithfulness starts with few things Jesus measures the next level by faithfulness at the present level. The key to the next level is always this level, not what a person imagines would happen with more authority. God calls faithfulness doing what is in His heart and in His mind right now. [30:36]
- 4. Humility must come before honor Pride has a hard time recognizing itself, and it often learns how to sound humble while still exalting itself. God does not ask His people to drop hints, campaign quietly, or push their own name forward. The mighty hand of God is strong enough to exalt in due time. [36:21]
- 5. Excellence reveals kingdom dignity Joseph shows that bondage, bad titles, and unfair settings do not have to stop excellence. God can make an organization blessed because one faithful person is there. Work done with might, wisdom, purity, and grace becomes a witness to the power of the kingdom of God.
