“``What happens when you pray to God for patience? Has anyone done this? It's a dangerous prayer. In my experience, when I prayed to God for patience, I found situations where he gives me opportunity to practice my patience. Children, work, friends, family. Right? And I think that praying a prayer, like your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven should cause us to pause and tremble a little because what God is doing is huge. What God is doing is important. And at the beginning of the Lord's prayer, Jesus teaches his disciples they should be praying for God to shape them for this reality to come.”

“There's no magic in it. There's nothing, that if you pray a 100 times, then you bring more kingdom presence into the world. It's not how it works. God loves you when you don't pray, and God loves you when you do pray. The difference is that when we sit in God's presence, Sitting in the new kingdom, our lives are transformed over time to someone who is more and more like Christ. These disciplines, prayer, scripture reading, community, worship, service, they're not religious boxes to check. They're opportunities for us to meet Jesus and for him to mold the hardness of our heart into who he made us to be.”

“Number two, embrace transformation. God is all about presence and meeting us where we're at, but he is never about leaving us where we are. The Lord's Prayer is not a magic incantation that brings kingdom life to the world. Doesn't work like that. But Jesus did give it to his disciples so that they could speak the truth of who God is and who they are and what they are doing every day in a formational rhythm. Just like in Romans 12, do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

“We see that this beautiful, united, perfect, painless, free of injustice and suffering, we see that this world is coming, and Jesus tells us to pray, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. So what do we do with this? Friends, if Revelation 21 is where we're headed and your kingdom come is a prayer that pulls a future reality into our present. How we live today is not incidental. It's not waiting for God to finally show up and do his thing because God has already shown up, and he has done his thing, and his thing is you. All across the city, churches are meeting, people are worshiping and praising. All across the globe, people are meeting and worshiping, and God has called all of us together. That until his dwelling can be made with us fully, he sends his spirit to fill each one of us so that we can bring God's presence into the world.”
