First Kings 3 brings two women into one house, two babies, and one night where death and theft entered quietly. The first woman slept on her own child, slept on her blessing, and killed what God had placed near her. The dead child became the picture of a life that does not belong to a person, a life imposed by the enemy, a burden that makes somebody cry day and night.

The living child stands for the blessing God prepared. The thief stands for the devil, because the devil came to steal what was alive and to put death beside God’s people. God created man and the first word He spoke was blessing. Christ came to restore that blessing, because blessing is not first a house or a car, but the power of God that produces those things.

The second woman cried at first because the morning was still dark. The light came, and the woman looked carefully at the child. The nose, the ears, the color, the hair, all testified, “This is not my son.” The Word of God is that light. When truth comes, the crying stops, and the mouth begins to say, “This is not my portion. I send it back to sender.”

Deliverance begins with knowing the truth. Falling down does not mean deliverance has happened. People fell before Jesus in Gethsemane, and they still stood up the same. The truth of God must enter the heart, because the doctor’s report is not the last report. The last report says, “By His wounds, healing has come.”

Prayer becomes powerful when it stands on the Word. Complaining is not prayer. Prayer brings God His own Word and says, “God, You said.” The judge responds to the law, and God honors His Word. The king in First Kings became the place where the stolen child was restored, and Jesus Christ is the King who returns people to their right place.

The sword revealed the true mother. The woman was willing to release the child in order to receive him back. John 10 shows the kingdom principle: Christ laid down His life so He could take it up again. Giving does not lose in God’s economy. Giving releases what is precious, even what brings pain, so God can break poverty, restore blessing, and bring back what the devil stole.
