Honor gets its rightful place when it is seen as assigning weight, value, and profound respect to God and to those God has placed in position. God says, “Those who honor me, I will honor,” and that principle reaches deeper than words coming out of somebody’s mouth. God puts people in front of His people to reveal whether honor is really in the heart.
Honor refuses to know pastors, leaders, or fellow believers after the flesh. Honor flows from the head to the body, so love for leadership that does not extend to the people is not true honor. Humility makes that kind of honor possible, because the flesh is particularly fond of itself and does not naturally esteem others higher. Christ standing for Stephen shows that heaven recognizes and responds to honor.
Ruth’s covenant loyalty to Naomi shows that honor does not need a visible benefit to remain faithful. God saw what Ruth did, Boaz heard of it, and the Lord brought recompense through the very honor she had shown. Honor is never unseen, even when it is given in lean years, in inconvenient places, and before any visible upsizing has come.
Jabez carries a name that means pain and sorrow, but God calls him honorable. The label placed on Jabez from the womb does not get the final word over his identity. Jabez honors God by going straight to the God of Israel and believing that Jehovah can revoke the sentence attached to his life.
The prayer of Jabez asks for blessing, enlarged borders, God’s hand, and protection from harm. Blessing is God’s empowerment for a person to fulfill an assignment, not merely a way to collect stuff. Enlarged territory reaches into the mind, where old words, racial limits, poverty thinking, fear, and self-imposed brakes have tried to keep people capped off. God’s hand brings direction, protection, supernatural ability, help, and power for the assignment.
Humility remains the fine print attached to honor. Honor costs opinions, familiar ways of thinking, and every cultural center that tries to stand above being kingdom centered. The Spirit calls believers to take off the limits, receive God’s adjustments, and stop spinning their wheels. Ministry belongs not only to visible leaders but to every servant equipped by God, whether serving in the church, the workplace, or any place where God sends them.

Key Takeaways
- 1. Honor God by honoring His people. Honor is not flattery, public applause, or merely saying the right words. Honor assigns weight to those God honors and refuses to separate love for leadership from love for the body. God takes seriously how His delegated authority and His people are treated. [58:23]
- 2. God’s name outranks painful labels. Jabez lived with a name that repeated pain over his life, yet God identified him as honorable. Old words, family patterns, and wounds may explain a struggle, but they do not have authority to define a future. Faith begins where a person brings those labels before the God of Israel. [70:01]
- 3. Blessing empowers divine assignment. The blessing is more than money, comfort, or personal advancement. God puts His blessing on a life so that life can become fruitful, fulfill purpose, and become a blessing to others. A blessed life carries God’s ability for what God has called it to do. [89:07]
- 4. Enlargement starts with renewed vision. Jabez’s enlarged border reaches beyond natural property into the limits placed on the mind. God breaks barriers built by fear, prejudice, poverty, and years of negative speech. A person lifted onto the Father’s shoulders can see what could never be seen while standing in the crowd. [91:44]
- 5. God’s hand supplies needed help. God’s hand brings protection on difficult roads, strength beyond natural ability, direction in uncertain places, and help for every assignment. Self-rule eventually wears a person out, but surrender makes room for divine power. The Holy Spirit does not merely inspire desire but empowers obedience.
