#TheologyAtTheTable
“See, the religious leaders, those Pharisees, theology produced separation. Jesus taught theology produced a dinner table. The most religious people in the room were the most opposed to mercy reaching those who actually needed it the most. Is there a standard of holiness? Yes. Holiness is a separation from sin and full commitment to Christ, but it is not a separation from sinners.”

#StopGatekeepingGrace
“Number two, we gatekeep what only God can give. The Pharisees decided who was in with God before he did. And we do the same. It can easily happen with the person who's struggling with addiction. The person who's been divorced. The person who has a reputation. We start functioning like bouncers at the door. At a door, you and I were never asked to guard. You and I were never asked to guard that door.”

#OffTheBleachers
“Why do we struggle to see that people need help around us? How do we avoid the bleachers and get ourselves down onto the floor of that hospital? Number one, we compare ourselves to others instead of measuring ourselves against Christ. Standing next to the tax collector, a pharisee looked righteous. That's a trap. We almost always find someone to stand next to who makes us look good.”

#CloseToThePhysician
“See, the Pharisees, the religious leaders weren't wrong that these people were sinners. Levi, Matthew was a sinner. They were wrong, however, in their response to him. Jesus eating with sinners was not Jesus approving of their sin. Let me make this clear. We do not approve of people's sin. Yet Jesus was bringing the sick, those who needed help close to the physician who he was.”
