Paul lays out a sequence of faithful actions that open the way for God's peace to flow into a life: standing firm in the Lord, resolving conflict, rejoicing, letting reasonableness be known, and bringing requests to God with thanksgiving. These are not hoops to earn peace but practices that position a person to receive the peace God supplies. That heavenly hope is the reason Christians can stand unwaveringly when pressures press in, because this life is not the sum of the story. Day 3: Jesus is the promised Prince of Peace.

The Advent promise centers on a child given to us who will bear the name Prince of Peace, signaling that peace originates in his person and reign. That title invites reliance on his rule rather than on human strategies or political definitions of harmony. Turn attention to the One whose government is upon his shoulder and invite his wise, sovereign peace into your present circumstances. [58:33]

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Day 4: Peace is received from Christ, not manufactured.

Peace is not a product of human effort or perfect circumstances but the outflow of connection to Jesus, the reservoir from which the living water pours. The practices Paul gives are means of reconnecting to that reservoir; they do not generate peace in themselves but enable Christ’s peace to guard the heart and mind. Whether someone has never known Christ or a believer has wandered from close connection, the practical step is the same—come, confess, and reconnect so the reservoir can flow.
