In Romans 12:12, we find a profound call to perseverance amidst life's trials. This verse, written by the Apostle Paul to early Christians facing severe persecution under Nero, offers timeless wisdom on how to navigate the challenges of life with faith and resilience. Paul exhorts believers to "rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer." These three directives form a roadmap for enduring the ups and downs of life with a steadfast spirit. [00:00:15]

Firstly, rejoicing in hope is not about naive optimism that the world will improve on its own. Instead, it is about anchoring our joy in the ultimate hope found in Jesus Christ and His promise of eternal life. This hope is not contingent on worldly circumstances but is rooted in the assurance of Christ's return and the glory that awaits us. By focusing on this eternal perspective, we can find joy even in the darkest times. [00:03:29]

Secondly, patience in tribulation is essential. Life will inevitably bring seasons of crushing difficulty, but our hope in Christ empowers us to endure. When our hope is set on the eternal, we can withstand the temporary afflictions of this world. The story of Job and the perseverance of figures like William Carey illustrate the power of enduring faith. They remind us that God does not require us to have all the answers or to always be strong; He simply asks us to hold on and trust in His promises. [00:18:31]

Lastly, being constant in prayer is crucial for spiritual endurance. Prayer is the lifeline that connects us to God's grace and strength. It is through prayer that we find the courage to persevere, knowing that we have a High Priest who sympathizes with our weaknesses. By making prayer a habitual part of our lives, we draw closer to God and align our hearts with His will. [00:30:00]

Avoid False Hopes: Placing our hope in worldly improvements or utopian visions leads to disappointment. Instead, we should recognize the uncertainty of the short-term and rejoice in the long-term security we have in Jesus Christ. [00:09:24]

Live with Eternal Perspective: Our way of life reflects where our hope lies. By setting our minds on things above and fixing our eyes on Jesus, we can live with purpose and resilience, knowing that our ultimate destiny is secure in Him. [00:34:54]

The Apostle is saying now rejoice in the hope rejoice in the hope that is yours in Jesus Christ now the obvious question is how are we to do that especially when life is hard and so let me make these three observations here. [00:05:48]

Stop indulging false hopes stop indulging false hopes it's a wonderful verse in the Proverbs that says this Hope deferred makes the heart sick Hope deferred makes the heart sick in other words if you live all of your life thinking that something's going to happen one day and setting your heart on that and then it doesn't, what happens you feel sick it breaks your heart. [00:06:05]

Recognize short-term uncertainty listen to what God says in the letter of James come now you who say today or tomorrow we will go into such-and-such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. [00:09:24]

In heaven there will be no policemen because there will be no crime in heaven there will be no soldiers because there will be no war in heaven there will be no doctors no surgeons no nurses no prison warders security guards Undertaker's insurance salesmen nobody's worried about the future you see no judges no watchmakers I like that there surely will be some sense of time but no tyranny of it. [00:13:29]

You will enjoy the blessings of a world where every person really loves every other person no hatred no violence and no fear you will enjoy this life in a resurrection body modeled after the resurrection body of Jesus in which no dark cloud of depression can ever cast its shadow over you some folks are saying amen to that. [00:16:04]

Rejoice in hope be patient in affliction and be constant in prayer and so far as the door of prayer is open to us let us continue to use it obviously more here than praying once in a while the Apostles saying if you're going to persevere you've got to make prayer the habit of your lifetime the pattern of your lifetime.
