“Like followers of Jesus, you don't fight alone. The Holy Spirit lives in you, and he works through you. And those moments when the pressure is building and that old temptation is rising up, we practice prayer, and we also pause, and we say, I know I'm not in this fight alone. You recognize your dependence. God, I can't do this. I'm not strong enough. I'm not good enough. I'm not wise enough. I'm not smart enough. I need you, Holy Spirit, in my life. Followers of Jesus, our strength comes not from working hard. Our strength comes from being radically dependent on the power of God to change us from the inside It's not your strength. It's his strength. It's not your willpower. It's his presence in your life.”

“When we go back to our old patterns and we fall back into our old habits and we're living like our old selves, it breaks the Holy Spirit's heart. It breaks his heart because the God of the universe, he loves you so much. You're his sons and his daughters. It breaks his heart because he was willing to send his one and only son, Jesus, to die on the cross so that we could be adopted into his family, to be set free from our sins and our patterns and our past. And when we put our old self back on, it just breaks his heart. He says, don't grieve the Holy Spirit's heart because you were sealed with him for the day of redemption.”

“And when you experience God's presence in your life and you start living on purpose and you're praying for a strength that you don't have, when you are living radically dependent like that, you'll see God move in your life and suddenly your prayer life will explode and the Bible will become more real than it's ever been. We we grow in our faith, from learning new novel ideas. We grow in our faith from putting our faith into practice.”
