The psalmist paints a scene: builders straining, watchmen pacing, bread earned through anxious toil. But God “gives His beloved sleep.” No amount of human effort secures what only He can provide. Houses stand when He builds them. Cities endure when He guards them. The laborer’s clenched fists relax under His promise: He gives. [02:01]

This passage dismantles our illusion of control. God isn’t against work—He’s against work divorced from dependence. Jesus fed thousands with a boy’s lunch, healed with a touch, calmed storms with a word. Our striving bends toward futility until we surrender outcomes to Him.

You rise early, stay late, and tally your worth by productivity. What if you worked today as one who trusts the Builder more than the blueprint? Where have you mistaken sweat for sanctification?

Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for He grants sleep to those He loves.

Day 2: Arrows in the Warrior’s Hand

Launching terrifies because outcomes hide in fog. But arrows don’t need to see the destination—they need true aim. Our prayers, Scripture deposits, and modeled faith set their course. Now we watch, trusting the Archer to guide their flight.
