Bible ReadingEphesians 1:7-147 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,
[05:13]8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight
[17:10]9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ
[18:30]10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.
[20:01]11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will,
[25:17]12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.
[30:37]13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
[27:51]14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
[28:00]Exodus 12:1-131 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,
[07:11]2 “This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you.
[07:11]3 Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their fathers' houses, a lamb for a household.
[07:11]4 And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his neighbor nearest to his house shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb.
[07:11]5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats,
[07:11]6 and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight.
[07:38]7 Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.
[07:38]8 They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it.
[07:38]9 Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted on the fire, with its head, legs, and inner parts.
[07:38]10 And you shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn.
[07:38]11 In this manner you shall eat it: with your belt fastened, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. And you shall eat it in haste. It is the LORD's Passover.
[07:38]12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the LORD.
[09:51]13 The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.
[09:51]Romans 6:17-1817 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed,
[08:07]18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.
[08:12]Observation questions- In Ephesians 1:7, what two blessings are connected with Christ’s blood, and what does Paul say is the measure of God’s grace? [14:41]
- What pictures of redemption come from the slave market and from Israel’s Passover in Exodus 12? What does each picture show had to happen for freedom to come? [06:22]
- According to Ephesians 1:9-10, what is the “mystery” God has made known, and what is the final destination of things in heaven and on earth? [20:01]
- In Ephesians 1:13-14, what happens after people hear the gospel and believe, and what two purposes does the Spirit’s seal serve? [28:12]
Interpretation questions- If redemption is “through his blood,” why can good behavior, church attendance, or religious effort never become a way of paying God back for sin? [13:24]
- Romans 6 says people were once slaves to sin but have been set free to become servants of righteousness. How does that change the meaning of Christian obedience—from a payment plan into a response to grace?
- Ephesians 1:10 promises that Christ will unite all things, yet believers still experience broken relationships, anxiety, and unfinished parts of life. How can this promise give real hope without pretending present pain is small or good? [22:17]
- An inheritance is received because a person belongs to a family, not because that person earned wages. What does this reveal about a believer’s place in God’s family and security before God? [27:25]
Application questions- Is there a sin, failure, or part of the past that still feels like a debt needing to be repaid? What would it look like this week to rest in the truth that Jesus paid it in full? [32:34]
- Where is the temptation strongest to try to stay in God’s good graces through performance—serving more, appearing put together, avoiding failure, or comparing with others? How could gratitude replace that pressure? [13:47]
- God’s grace is lavished, not measured out in tiny portions. When shame tells someone that God must be tired of forgiving or helping them, what truth from Ephesians 1:7-8 needs to be remembered? [17:32]
- What loose end currently makes life feel chaotic—a relationship, finances, work, parenting, health, or anxiety about the future? How might trusting that everything is headed toward Christ change the way that situation is carried this week? [22:48]
- Where is there a tendency to control outcomes—checking finances constantly, replaying conversations, trying to manage children’s every decision, or lying awake trying to solve everything? What is one specific burden that can be entrusted to Christ rather than carried alone? [24:19]
- How does knowing that believers are fully included in God’s family speak into feelings of being overlooked, unwanted, or as though they must earn a place? [27:31]
- The Holy Spirit is God’s guarantee that the full inheritance is still coming. How can that promise shape a believer’s faithfulness and worship during a difficult week, not only during a good one? [30:12]
