Bible Reading2 Corinthians 12:9-10 “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
[17:26]Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
[10:51]Acts 20:24 “But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.”
[19:39]Philippians 1:12-14 “I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.”
[25:56]Acts 18:9-10 “And the Lord said to Paul one night in a vision, ‘Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people.’”
[28:38]2 Corinthians 4:17-18 “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
[37:15]Philippians 4:12-13 “I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
[42:28]Acts 27:25 “So take heart, men, for I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I have been told.”
[44:35]2 Corinthians 4:8-9 “We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;”
[48:34]Colossians 2:13-15 “And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.”
[51:58]Observation questions- In Matthew 11:28-30, what does Jesus tell weary and burdened people to do, and what does He promise to give them?
- In 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, what kinds of things does Paul list alongside weakness, and what does he say happens when he is weak? [17:49]
- According to Philippians 1:12-14, what were two results of Paul’s imprisonment for Christ? [25:56]
- What pictures are used to describe overload and support: the bridge under too much weight, and the brick set into a wall with other bricks around it? [30:26]
Interpretation questions- Jesus says people must come to Him, take His yoke, and learn from Him in order to find rest for their souls. Why is soul-rest more than simply getting a break or having an easier week? [11:30]
- Paul says God’s power is made perfect in weakness. Why does weakness often become the very place where a person stops pretending and starts depending on Christ? [18:20]
- Paul saw prison not only as suffering, but also as a place where the gospel could move forward. How can hardship become more than an interruption and instead become part of God’s purpose? [26:30]
- God told Paul, “I am with you,” and also, “I have many people in this city.” What does that show about the need for both God’s presence and God’s people when life gets heavy? [30:08]
Application questions- Where does life feel overloaded right now—mind, emotions, family, work, health, or something else? What are the “cracks underneath” that may not be obvious to everyone else? [03:42]
- Needing help is not failure. Is there a place where it would be wise to reach out for prayer, honest conversation, or even professional help instead of carrying the whole weight alone? [06:38]
- Calling must outrun comfort. Is there an area where comfort, safety, or convenience has been shaping decisions more than obedience to God? What might faithfulness look like there? [23:36]
- God often strengthens people through connection. What would it look like to become less isolated this season—joining more fully in Christian community, speaking honestly, serving, sharing meals, or letting others know a real need? [31:56]
- Fear focuses on what might happen, but faith focuses on what God has said. What fear has been loud lately, and what truth from God’s Word needs to become louder than that fear? [48:03]
- Paul kept getting back up. Where has discouragement tempted a person to quit, go numb, or pull back? What would “getting back up” look like in one practical step this week? [48:34]
- In Christ, guilt and shame are not the believer’s identity anymore. Is there an old accusation, failure, or label still being carried like a heavy backpack? What would it look like to live as someone whose debt has been nailed to the cross? [54:27]
