Day 1: The Cross Levels Every Claim to Spiritual VIP Status

The cross demolishes all human hierarchies. It refuses to flatter the religious elite or shame the broken. A seminary professor and recovering addict both enter through the same door of grace. No one earns better seating at Jesus’ table through lineage, achievements, or doctrinal pedigree. Spiritual arrogance withers where all knees bow to the same crucified King. [49:19]

Day 2: When the Pews Hold Slaves and CEOs

Sunday gatherings still confront our class instincts—the invisible labels of “successful” and “struggling” dissolve where duct-tape lives and polished resumes kneel together. Your net worth never determined your worth to Christ. [56:13]

Day 3: Your Last Name Doesn’t Get You a Backstage Pass

Korean, Nigerian, and Appalachian believers all enter the same narrow door. Family trees may impress genealogists, but they gather no moss on the rock of salvation. [48:09]

Sermon Summary

Paul’s words in Galatians 3:28 bring three of history’s biggest dividing lines right into the room: Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and female. The text lands on racial and ethnic issues, socioeconomic conflict, and gender, all of them hot potatoes then and now. Scripture proves itself contemporary because the technologies change, but the human condition and the human heart stay the same.

Paul’s order even messes with the assumptions people bring to the text. Jew comes before Greek, male before female, but slave comes before free. The Spirit will not let social rank remain untouched. Human beings are really good at dividing people into mental boxes: Republicans and Democrats, rich and poor, Ford and Chevy, Apple and Android, early church people and those who think the opening hymn is merely a suggestion. God has a bigger box, and He calls it “in Christ.”

The phrase “for you are all one in Christ Jesus” must be read as the conclusion that gives meaning to every pair before it. Paul does not say that differences disappear, nor does Christ homogenize humanity. Jews remain Jews, Gentiles remain Gentiles, men remain men, women remain women, and social realities do not suddenly vanish. Christ does say that these distinctions no longer determine worth, standing, or access to God.

The cross destroys ethnic superiority because every person comes through the same door of grace. Israel possessed covenant history, circumcision, Torah, temple, promises, and patriarchs, yet none of that provides a VIP entrance at the cross. The lifelong church member, seminary professor, recovering addict, prisoner, and first-time visitor all come by grace. The cross flatters nobody: every person was sinful enough that Christ had to die, and loved enough that Christ willingly did.

Christ also destroys social superiority. Slave and free sounded socially explosive in the Roman world, where legal rights, property, education, occupation, and freedom were all shaped by class. Yet a master and slave could confess the same Lord, receive the same baptism, eat the same Lord’s Supper, and call each other brother. Bank accounts, education, job titles, neighborhoods, and outward success cannot determine anybody’s value. Jesus does.

The church therefore becomes one family without requiring everybody to do everything the same way. Christ saves people not only from sin, but for His family. Identity is not something earned through race, tax bracket, agenda, or preference. Identity is received in Christ, and believers live from that identity, not for it.
