Jesus is not just any shepherd—He is the Good Shepherd who knows His sheep, calls them by name, and lays down His life for them. Before He ever asks for obedience or faithfulness, He first gives Himself completely, offering grace and forgiveness for every time we go astray. His sacrificial love is the foundation of our relationship with Him, and it is out of this love that we are invited to follow Him, trusting that He leads us with compassion and purpose. [39:32]
John 10:11, 14-16 (ESV)
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep... I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.”
Reflection: In what area of your life do you need to trust Jesus as your Good Shepherd, believing that He has already laid down His life for you before asking anything in return?
God’s design for His people is not isolation but belonging; we are called to be a whole family, united in Christ. Sin breaks and divides, but Jesus’ love and forgiveness restore us, making us whole together. In this family, everyone is welcome—regardless of background, mistakes, or status—because our wholeness comes from Christ alone. Here, you are reminded that you belong, and together we experience the healing and unity that only Jesus can give. [43:24]
2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (ESV)
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.”
Reflection: Who in your church family or community needs to be reminded today that they belong and are made whole in Christ—and how can you reach out to them?
To follow the one true Shepherd is to listen to His voice in all of Scripture, not just the parts we prefer. God’s Word is not a buffet to pick and choose from; it is a unified, trustworthy guide for our lives. We are called to read it in context, let it shape us, and allow it to challenge and change us, trusting that Jesus—the Word made flesh—leads us through every page. [38:02]
Psalm 23:1-4 (ESV)
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
Reflection: Is there a part of God’s Word you have been avoiding or struggling to accept? What would it look like to trust Jesus enough to follow Him even there?
As members of God’s family, we are entrusted with the ministry of reconciliation—restoring relationships, forgiving as Christ forgave us, and caring for each other in both joy and hardship. This calling is not just for a few, but for all of us together, as we confess, forgive, and support one another, becoming living witnesses of God’s grace to the world. [46:46]
Ephesians 4:32 (ESV)
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
Reflection: Is there someone you need to forgive or be reconciled with today? How can you take a step toward that, trusting God’s grace to lead you?
Our mission is not complete until all whom God is calling have been welcomed into His family. We are sent together to share the good news, to invite others into the wholeness and belonging we have found in Christ. This journey is not meant to be walked alone; as one family following one Shepherd, we go out with love, compassion, and hope, knowing that Jesus is the answer the world needs. [47:54]
Matthew 28:19-20 (ESV)
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Reflection: Who in your life or neighborhood might be longing for belonging and hope? How can you invite them to experience the love and family of Christ this week?
Today, we gathered as one family to worship, to seek God’s truth, and to remember our calling as followers of Jesus, the Good Shepherd. In the heart of our community, we find belonging, not because of our backgrounds or our achievements, but because of the love and grace of Christ that unites us. Our journey as a church is rooted in the mission statement: “One family following one shepherd. Welcome to the journey.” This isn’t just a slogan—it’s a way of life that shapes how we see ourselves, each other, and the world around us.
Drawing from Psalm 23 and John 10, we are reminded that Jesus is the Good Shepherd who leads, protects, and lays down his life for us. He is the only one truly worth following, and his Word is our guide—not something to be cherry-picked or treated like a buffet, but embraced in its fullness. In a world that often encourages us to follow celebrities or fleeting trends, we are called to follow Christ alone, letting his voice shape our identity and direction.
Being “one family” means we do not walk this journey alone. The church is not a collection of individuals, but a community—a family—where everyone belongs, regardless of their past, status, or struggles. We are made whole in Christ, and together we experience healing, forgiveness, and restoration. Sin breaks and divides, but Jesus makes us whole, and in this family, we confess, forgive, and reconcile with one another, embodying the grace we have received.
Our wholeness is both a gift and a calling. We are made whole by Christ, but we are also sent to invite others into this family, knowing that God’s desire is for all to belong. The journey is ongoing; we are continually being shaped, challenged, and called to grow together. As ambassadors of reconciliation, we care for each other, call each other back when we stray, and go out to share the good news with a world in need. No matter where you come from or what you’ve done, you belong here. Together, we follow the one Shepherd, and together, we welcome all to the journey.
Psalm 23 (ESV) — > The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
> He makes me lie down in green pastures.
> He leads me beside still waters.
> He restores my soul.
> He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
> Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
> I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
> your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
> You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
> you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
> Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
> and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
John 10:11-16 (ESV) — > I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
> He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.
> He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
> I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me,
> just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.
> And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.
2 Corinthians 5:17-20 (ESV) — > Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
> All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;
> that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
> Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
In the heart of our faith, we find strength. In the whispers of our prayers, we discover hope. Today, let us come together as one to embrace the light of love, the beauty of grace, and our unwavering faith. In the warmth of these walls, we find refuge. In the unity of our congregation, we find belonging. We are bound not only by our shared beliefs. But by the love and compassion that flow through these chairs. Let us be the hands that reach out to those in need and the voice of compassion for those in despair. Let our lives be a testament to the power of faith and the overwhelming grace of God. Let us be the light that shines in the darkness, the hands that lift the fallen and the voice of hope to a world in need. In our faith, we find our calling. In our church, we find our family. And in our service, we find our purpose. May the love and grace of our Lord guide us together on life's journey. [00:25:14] (27 seconds) #LightHandsPurpose
Our mission statement is something that's supposed to guide us and lead us. It's supposed to be memorable, and it's supposed to be something that stirs us to action. And I believe it's pretty memorable, and I believe most of you know it. Let's check. One family. Yes. See, we know this thing. We are one family following one shepherd. Welcome to the journey. This is good, but do we really understand it? We want to make sure that we've got it. [00:32:38] (28 seconds) #OneFamilyOneShepherd
We reconcile with each other and we reconcile Christ to the world. We bring that to the world. But we don't just stop with what happens with the family of God. We also are ambassadors for Christ, each and every one of us. But together we are sent to go out and share this good news. Why? Because the family is not fully whole yet. We are whole in Christ, but we haven't gotten everyone in here that God intends to be in here yet. [00:46:48] (25 seconds) #JourneyWithTheShepherd
You belong here. You belong in this family. I don't care about your past. You belong here because God says, I love you enough to send my son, the good shepherd, to lay down his life for you, to overcome for you. You belong in this family. And here you are loved by your God and by your family. And we are going to do a better and better job at doing this. And we are going to go together to share the good news. [00:47:58] (35 seconds) #AwakeningInFaith
My friends, you are made whole. You Belong here because our God loves you. Amen. Amen. Let's stand and sing. [00:53:12] (17 seconds)
