Day 1: Obedience—Responding Wholeheartedly to God’s Call

Obedience is more than just hearing God’s call; it is responding with action and a heart fully devoted to His will. Nehemiah’s story shows that when God places a burden on your heart, He desires not only your prayers but your willingness to step out and do what He asks, even when it feels uncomfortable or costly. True obedience means aligning your desires with God’s, acting on His prompting, and serving Him with sincerity rather than out of obligation or for appearances. When you follow through wholeheartedly, you become a vessel for God’s work, and He delights in your faithfulness, just as a father delights in a child who stands up for what is right. [31:48]

Nehemiah 6:1-16 (ESV)
Now when Sanballat and Tobiah and Geshem the Arab and the rest of our enemies heard that I had built the wall and that there was no breach left in it (although up to that time I had not set up the doors in the gates), Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come and let us meet together at Hakkephirim in the plain of Ono.” But they intended to do me harm. And I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?” And they sent to me four times in this way, and I answered them in the same manner. In the same way Sanballat for the fifth time sent his servant to me with an open letter in his hand. In it was written, “It is reported among the nations, and Geshem also says it, that you and the Jews intend to rebel; that is why you are building the wall. And according to these reports you wish to become their king. And you have also set up prophets to proclaim concerning you in Jerusalem, ‘There is a king in Judah.’ And now the king will hear of these reports. So now come and let us take counsel together.” Then I sent to him, saying, “No such things as you say have been done, for you are inventing them out of your own mind.” For they all wanted to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will drop from the work, and it will not be done.” But now, O God, strengthen my hands. Now when I went into the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah, son of Mehetabel, who was confined to his home, he said, “Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple. Let us close the doors of the temple, for they are coming to kill you. They are coming to kill you by night.” But I said, “Should such a man as I run away? And what man such as I could go into the temple and live? I will not go in.” And I understood and saw that God had not sent him, but he had pronounced the prophecy against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. For this purpose he was hired, that I should be afraid and act in this way and sin, and so they could give me a bad name in order to taunt me. Remember Tobiah and Sanballat, O my God, according to these things that they did, and also the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets who wanted to make me afraid. So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty-two days. And when all our enemies heard of it, all the nations around us were afraid and fell greatly in their own esteem, for they perceived that this work had been accomplished with the help of our God.

Day 2: Perseverance—Continuing the Work Despite Discouragement

Perseverance is essential in the Christian life, especially when facing discouragement, opposition, or the feeling that your efforts are ineffective. Nehemiah’s journey was filled with threats, false accusations, and moments where the work seemed impossible, yet he pressed on, trusting God to strengthen his hands. In ministry and daily life, you may not always see immediate results or feel appreciated, but God is at work through your faithfulness. Even when you feel tired or question your impact, remember that seeds are being planted and lives are being touched in ways you may never fully see. [40:31]

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Day 3: Authenticity—Rooting Your Identity in Christ

Authenticity means being honest about who you are and allowing your life to be defined by Christ rather than by appearances or expectations. When your authenticity is rooted in Jesus, it cannot be faked or manufactured; it is revealed in your willingness to be vulnerable, honest, and real with others. People are drawn to genuine faith, and God uses broken, authentic people as building material for His kingdom. When you live out your faith with honesty and vulnerability, others will notice something different and may even ask how they can have what you have. [51:52]

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Day 4: Action—Moving Beyond Good Intentions

It is not enough to simply feel a burden or pray about God’s will; true obedience requires action. Many people sense God’s leading but never move beyond intention to actually serving, loving, or building as He calls. God desires that you not only discern His will but also step out in faith, even when it means leaving comfort or risking failure. When you act on God’s prompting, you participate in His work and experience the joy of being used by Him to make a difference. [30:23]

Day 5: Spiritual Renewal—Letting God Transform Your Heart

Authentic faith is not about outward religion or emotional highs, but about allowing God to transform your heart and define your identity in Him. As you serve and build, continually seek God’s renewal, asking Him to give you a heart that loves what He loves and grieves for what grieves Him. This is the foundation for lasting impact and true joy in your walk with Christ. [53:20]

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

It also means vulnerability—allowing God to use our brokenness as building material for His kingdom. People are drawn to genuine faith, not to perfection or performance. When our authenticity is anchored in Jesus, it cannot be faked, and it becomes a powerful witness to those around us.

The mission is not finished. There are still broken walls in our community, still people who need to see and experience the love of Christ. Like Nehemiah, we are called to build, to persevere, and to be authentic, trusting that God will use our obedience for His glory.

“Sometimes we feel like God isn't working at all. Like he has us stuck in a in a place and like nothing's really happening and and it's it's just very disheartening. “It should also be acknowledged though that regardless of how we feel about a ministry or or what's going on in God's church, there has to be an action. Like there has to be a followth through within that within that ministry. Action is a requirement to obedience. There can't be just thoughts and prayers regarding God's will, right?”

“He said that if you have feelings or you have a desire to serve the Lord and you haven't followed through with that leading, stop praying. Stop praying about it and go and do the thing on I and I were actually talking about that this evening, how that applies to our life. It's very convicting in a way. Am I being obedient to that call?”

“There's a third piece though that should also be acknowledged is that within obedience, there should be a wholeheartedness attached to that that action. Like if you do something in service to the to the father, but it's like only half-heartedly or or you're only doing it because you you know that if you don't do it, you're going to get in trouble or or because of how you should be perceived within the church because that's what is expected of you.”

“Then at that point, well while his ministry is continuing it partially becomes your ministry and becomes less of Jesus's ministry. I was helping Olivia with her patch homework the other day and ironically um this week or this last week the the the character the characteristic was on obedience.”

“Can I tell you today that the pride that I had in my heart in in that moment for my son, that's the exact same response Jesus has. When we proclaim his name, when we speak his truth, that's exactly how Jesus is responding in heaven. Let me lay lay a portrait for you.”

“Jesus is watching as we do things all the time. And so when we when we speak his name, when we proclaim his truth in a heart that is de in devotion to him and in love to him to please him. He's saying, "Yes, I knew he could be something useful for you, Father. I knew I could turn him into something useful when he was when he was useless.”

“Perseverance is an interesting thing because I think we fall into traps when it go when when it comes to perseverance, when it comes to ministry. And and to be clear, the enemy lays these traps for us and they can they can feel a little bit um like unnoticeable, some somewhat like subtle in nature, like nonslike, but they're real and they're easy to fall into.”

“I recognize sometimes when you have been serving in these roles or these ministries for years, it may not seem like you're making a difference. That like your ministry isn't really growing, that you you're not seeing people led to Christ, that you're not really seeing the the effect of the gospel necessarily all the time.”

“So I will say that big picture big regardless of how you feel not just within children's ministries but like in other aspects of ministry within church within within within Christ ministry with out in the community regardless of how you feel your ministry is going you are having an impact. People are being changed. Children are being changed. Seeds are being planted into hearts. Parents are hearing this when their kids go home.”

“If you're feeling tired or or like like ineffective in some way, I would say keep going. You have no you may have no idea the impact you are having on the on kids' lives, on parents' lives. Love Jesus first. And if you love Jesus, you will be able to love the people that you're supposed to be ministering to.”

“An interesting thing happens when your authenticity is rooted in Jesus. Though the enemies of the Lord God high are threatened. This type of authenticity can't be faked when it comes to doing something difficult over a period of time. Something that requires a buy in maybe even a change your heart at its very your very core.”

“God prefers to use broken people. We see this throughout scripture that have become authentic that have built the foundations of their life in Jesus because their authenticity is based not in who and what they are but instead who and what Jesus is.”
