A life of no reserve is one of complete surrender, holding nothing back in service to the Lord. It is the decision to give all of yourself—your time, energy, resources, and companionship—to whatever God’s will may be. This is not about reckless self-depletion but a conscious leaning away from self-preservation and toward self-sacrifice. It is the commitment to ask Jesus what He wants you to do and to follow through with a wholehearted yes. Such a life is lived with all your might, trusting that God can use every offering for His miraculous purposes. [59:19]
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom. (Ecclesiastes 9:10, NIV)
Reflection: What is one specific area—such as your time, a particular skill, or a financial resource—that you have been holding in reserve from God? What would it look like to offer that completely to Him this week in a practical, tangible way?
The path of God’s purpose is rarely the easiest one, but it is the one that changes the world. Choosing no retreat means refusing to quit, give up, or create a plan B when God’s calling becomes difficult. It is an acknowledgment that a challenging path often indicates a purpose bigger than yourself. This perseverance is fueled by an eternal perspective, focusing not on the temporary struggles seen but on the unseen, eternal glory that God is bringing about through our faithful endurance. [01:05:30]
So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. (2 Corinthians 4:16, The Message)
Reflection: Where in your life are you currently facing a temptation to retreat from a difficult situation God has placed you in? What is one step you can take this week to stand firm in that area, trusting in God’s unfolding grace?
A life with no regret is not a perfect life without mistakes, but a life lived fully for Christ, mindful of the account we will one day give. It is about making our constant ambition to be pleasing to Him in all things. This perspective shifts our focus from our own desires to the souls God loves, understanding that our time, opportunities, and abilities are gifts to be used for His eternal mission. It is a call to live intentionally, so that we may stand before Him with joy. [01:10:35]
Therefore, whether we are at home [on earth] or away from home [and with Him], it is our [constant] ambition to be pleasing to Him. For we [believers] must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be repaid for what has been done in the body, whether good or bad. (2 Corinthians 5:9-10a, AMP)
Reflection: When you consider the use of your time and opportunities from the past month, what is one action or motive you would like to adjust to live more purposefully for God’s pleasure?
It is one thing to look at people, and another to truly see them. Seeing with God’s eyes means looking past our own lenses of busyness, prejudice, or fear to recognize the inherent value and need of every soul for whom Christ died. This kind of sight moves us from overlooking to engaging, creating a burden to share the good news. It is the first and vital step in loving others as God does and participating in His search and rescue mission for the world. [01:16:54]
Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman?” (Luke 7:44a, NIV)
Reflection: Who is someone in your daily routine—a coworker, neighbor, or cashier—that you typically look at but have failed to truly see? How might God be inviting you to see them with His eyes and engage with them this week?
God’s purpose is to seek and save the lost, and He sends every believer into the world to participate in this mission. Embracing this purpose means taking firm hold of it as your own, saying “mine” to God’s plan for your life. It requires surrendering your fears, ambitions, and need for control to freely grasp what God has for you. This is a joyful surrender, empowered by the Holy Spirit, that leads to the beautiful work of sharing the gospel both across the street and across the world. [01:29:40]
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. (Philippians 3:12, NIV)
Reflection: What is one fear or personal ambition you need to surrender in order to more fully take hold of God’s purpose for your life? How can you actively “press on” in that area this week?
A young philanthropist’s marginal note—no reserve, no retreat, no regret—frames a call to radical surrender, tenacity, and wholehearted living. William Borden’s choice to renounce wealth and pursue missions, though cut short by death in Egypt, ignited a wider movement that sent thousands to the nations. That legacy models the sermon’s core insistence: give everything to God, refuse to withdraw when the road hardens, and live so that the end holds no unspoken should-haves. Personal sorrow and missionary stories illustrate how grief and risk can become catalysts for service when submitted to God’s purposes.
Three practical pathways steer a life without regrets. First, see people through God’s eyes—notice faces, attend to needs, and refuse to rush past the soul God has placed before each person. Second, love with God’s love—intentionally and sacrificially offer time, resources, and presence to those who do not merit it, overcoming fear and prejudice that block compassion. Third, make God’s purpose personal—surrender control, take hold of the mission Christ entrusted, and press forward even when the path demands endurance.
Scripture anchors the urgency: Ecclesiastes exhorts wholehearted effort, Romans and Acts portray the beauty of feet that bring the good news, and Corinthians warns of future accounting that should drive faithful stewardship of time and talents. Contemporary examples underscore cost and consequence: a children’s camp on a sandy field produced entire families for Christ; an imprisoned house church leader continued ministry via Zoom after brutal persecution; missionaries learned to wrestle with hidden fears that once hindered love for people from different nations.
Practical next steps include asking God before declining service, letting the Holy Spirit empower witness rather than relying on mere willpower, giving sacrificially to missions, and stepping into cross-cultural outreaches that open doors over time. The closing charge reframes life as a margin-writing exercise: every yes to God inks purpose into one’s story. The final invitation calls for standing before God ready to be used, to persevere, and to live without the weight of “what ifs.”
And no retreat. Don't stop. Don't give up. Don't quit. There are times, I'll admit it, there'll be times when God's plan for your life will not be easy, and you'll be tempted. Kinda change course just a little bit. Human nature takes the path of least resistance, like water flowing downhill. But I'm telling you, God's plan and purpose is the easiest path really rarely ever changes the world. Now let that sink in just a little bit. Easiest plan, the easiest way doesn't change the world.

So as a mother, I ran to the water's edge, and I saw one of the staff's little girls holding on to Jen's beach ball, screaming, Icona, mine. That's what she saying. She was screaming, mine. It wasn't her beach ball, but she took ownership that day, and nobody was taking that beach ball away from her, not Jen or anyone. But that's what we've gotta do with God's purposes for our life. We gotta grab ahold of it. We gotta take claim of it. We've got to say, Mine. God's purposes is my purposes.

Years later, Charles Bavalloni, our host, introduced a young man to my husband. And he told my husband, he said, I was a child. When I was a child, on that soccer field, I gave my life to Jesus. And he introduced his mother and his wife and his children, all of whom are saved and serving the lord. You you don't understand it really, but every soul from a Muslim nation is a miracle. Every single soul is a miracle, and here was standing an entire family serving God because our church, we put on a children's camp.

When William Borden's bible was opened after his death, three phrases were found written in the margins. No reserves, no retreats, no regrets. When your story is finished, what will be written in the margins of your life. Every time you say yes to God's purposes, you write something in those margins. And if you want to have no reserves, no retreat, and no regrets, I'd like for you to stand up for just a moment because I wanna pray for you. If this is your heart's cry, if God stirred something in you about doing the hard stuff, Jesus, I pray for every man and woman that is standing here today before your throne.

But as parent ways won't always be easy, but it's in the it's in the hard stuff that amazing thing has happened. In the hard stuff. Not in the in the hard stuff. We've been on missions, and we've seen hundreds of people delivered. Thousands of people give their lives to Christ. Thousands be healed. Thousands receive the baptism of Holy Spirit. This is the kind of things that happen in the hard place. Lives are changed. Don't you wanna be a part of that?

I I promise you it will be an adventure. There's nothing like a God adventure. It will be an adventure. So surrender your fears, your need for control, your worries, your ambitions, your past, your future, your goals, your wants, your needs, surrender to Jesus. Surrender everything. Because when you get rid of it all, then your hands are free so you can grab a hold of God's purposes for your life.

Don't hold back anything in your service for the Lord. If you're asked to do it and it's God's will for your life, then then do it. Go for it. Give it your all. Don't hold back anything in reserve. You only have one life to give to God. Right? Well, give it all you've got. That live like Ecclesiastes nine ten tells us. It says, whatever your hand finds to do, what? With Do all your might. So when you give to others, whether it is of your time, of your companionship, your energy, your resources, your advice, just give yourself completely.

I mean, of course, if you give all of yourself, all of the time to all the people you meet, you'll bankrupt. Like, yeah, I I get that. But here's the thing. Most of us tend to lean towards self preservation more than we do self sacrifice. So before you say no, before you choose to ignore, ask Jesus what he wants you to do. Ask him. And if he nudges you just towards giving, then then go ahead to give.
