52s
“And when we believe in Christ, what that means is that our sins are paid for. They're forgiven. They're washed away. But it also means that the perfect obedient record of Jesus is placed on our account. The best deposit you have ever received in your life. So now as a believer, when God looks on you, he looks at you as one who has always what is pleasing to him, and the reason is because the righteousness of Jesus is on your account.”
63s
“And Jesus came among us and lived a perfectly obedient life. He kept all the demands of the law so that he alone is righteous. He alone has earned the love of God through his obedience. John eight twenty nine, Jesus says this about his relationship to the father. He says, I always do the things that are pleasing to him. Jesus has always pleased the father his whole entire life. Yet this obedient one died. He died on the cross for our sins. And here's what was happening at the cross. The wrath of God that we deserve for our sins fell on Jesus instead.”
41s
“``What this means is that there's no mushy middle in Christianity. There's no such thing as an almost Christian. There is no such thing as an almost gospel. You're either saved by grace through faith in Jesus, or you are under God's curse because you are relying on your own works to save you. These are the only two options there are.”
80s
“And here's here's why. I think it's because we do not naturally drift towards grace. We naturally drift towards salvation by works. And the problem the problem isn't that we don't understand the gospel. The problem is that we have a difficult time accepting it. We don't wanna believe it's true. We wanna point to something in our life that we contributed. We want to be good enough. We don't want grace. We want to be our own savior. The gospel offends our pride. I'm better than others. I'm more worthy than others. I've outperformed others. Surely, that's got to count for something. And the message of the gospel to us is no, it doesn't. You are actually far more sinful than you realize. No matter how much you work, and toil, and labor, no matter how much you love and serve, it can never remove the stain of your guilt.”
