[28:39]Observation questions
- What words does Genesis 6 use to describe Noah, and how do those words contrast with the description of the rest of the earth?
- What particular sin is named more than once as filling the earth, and what does that reveal about the seriousness of the world’s corruption? [29:25]
- What specific instructions does God give Noah for preserving life in the ark, including people, animals, and food?
- What does the brief statement, “Noah did everything just as God commanded him,” emphasize after the long list of difficult instructions? [39:50]
Interpretation questions
- Genesis says that God saw the corruption of the earth and that Noah walked faithfully with God. What does this contrast suggest about the difference between outward religious appearance and the true direction of a person’s heart? [31:30]
- God’s plan includes both judgment on violence and a covenant to preserve Noah’s family and living creatures. How do these two parts of God’s plan show both His holiness and His mercy? [34:34]
- Noah trusted God’s word about a flood he had not yet seen. What does Noah’s obedience show about the relationship between faith, trust, and action? [47:44]
- Noah received a huge assignment with enough direction to begin, but not every detail of the years ahead. How might this shape the way believers respond when God’s will seems larger than their own ability? [49:50]
Application questions
- God sees beneath Christian words, habits, and appearances to the direction of the heart. Where does your heart seem to be pointing these days: toward doing God’s will, toward comfort, toward control, or toward something else? [30:38]
- Noah’s faith was visible because he obeyed God’s command. Is there an area where you say you trust God, but your choices have not yet moved toward obedience? What could one faithful action look like this week? [47:49]
- A burden can become a willingness to serve when it is brought before God in prayer. Is there a person, need, or broken situation that has stayed on your heart? What might it look like to move from concern to one practical act of love? [44:03]
- The question “How am I going to do this?” can keep people from beginning the work God places before them. What unanswered “how” question is making you hesitate, and what is the next right thing you can do without having every answer? [46:07]
- God does not promise that obedience will be easy, unafraid, or uncomplicated. When have fear or difficulty tempted you to step back from something you believed was right? How can the group encourage you to keep trusting God? [49:57]
- God’s patience continues because He desires to save, and His people carry a message of reconciliation and hope. Who in your everyday life may need to experience that hope through your words, prayer, invitation, or practical care? [57:25]
