Paul closes Galatians by taking the pen in his own hand and writing in large letters. His handwriting says something personal: this correction is not coming from somebody far away who does not know them. Paul knows these people, loves them, and cares enough to do the hard work himself. The church is called to do the same kind of work with people, not handing off real relationship, real correction, or real encouragement to somebody else.
Paul warns the Galatians about people who want to impress them by means of the flesh. Those voices want them to earn something that only Christ can give, and they want them to fit in so they will not face persecution. The world always wants control. Influencers want control. The flesh wants control. Christ Jesus calls people to follow Him, not because He manipulates or forces them, but because He has made a way for them through faith.
The text brings everything back to one line: “What counts is the new creation.” Circumcision or uncircumcision cannot transform a heart. Physical effort, religious appearance, and white-knuckling life cannot make anybody new. The Spirit of God makes people new through Christ Jesus.
Paul’s own life proves that point. Saul was a man hunting Christians down, but Paul became a man willing to be beaten, imprisoned, and rejected for the name of Jesus. Christ did not merely improve Saul’s old life. Christ made him a new creation. That new creation does not mean every personality trait disappears, but it does mean people ought to see something so different that they say, “That is not the same person that I once knew.”
The picture of a bitter, grumpy man becoming joyful, loving, hungry for Scripture, and full of excitement for Jesus shows the power of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit does not leave people the way they were. The Spirit remakes and remolds them. Christ’s mark means the past no longer has the final word. Sin is forgiven, shame is covered by His blood, and the old life cannot define the person Christ has made new.
Paul ends with grace and peace because Christ must keep doing what human flesh cannot do. The church cannot live in the Spirit by trying harder alone. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ must be with His people in their spirit.

Key Takeaways
- 1. What counts is new creation The flesh can produce religious activity, outward conformity, and a polished image, but it cannot create a new heart. Christ Jesus does more than make a person look better in public. The Holy Spirit makes a person new from the inside out, and that new life becomes visible over time. [50:25]
- 2. Real correction requires real relationship Paul writes with his own hand because love does not hide behind distance when hard words are needed. Correction carries weight when it comes from somebody who has taken time to know, walk with, and care for another person. The church cannot outsource the costly work of loving people well. [47:59]
- 3. The old life loses its claim Paul’s mark of Jesus means his past cannot be used as the final definition of who he is. Christ’s blood covers sin, and His Spirit gives a new identity that is stronger than old shame. The past may still leave scars in this world, but it cannot own the future of somebody made new in Christ. [59:11]
- 4. The Spirit changes recognizable people New creation does not require every personality trait to disappear, but it does bring a real difference that others can see. A bitter person becoming loving, a hard person becoming tender, or a hopeless person becoming hungry for Jesus points to God’s work. The Holy Spirit does not merely adjust behavior; He remakes lives.
