#TrustTheCalling
“``We got to be have discernment. We got to have obedience. And here's where ne was the primary on. You don't get anything else this morning. I hope you do. You don't get anything else. Understand? Our primary element of our calling is trust. God brings us to that place, and we've got to open our mouths and voice what it is that God has called us to do. And as he gives us opportunity with discernment and obedience, we trust him in the outcome. Because here's the last thing. There is always both reward and risk in our calling. There are times you're going to be obedient to the calling of God and you are going to fall on your face, and it's not going to work out where you fall, but there are times you're going to be obedient to that calling, and it's going to work out exactly like you thought it would. The point is to trust The Lord. The results are up to him.”

#ObedienceOverFeeling
“But Nehemiah did what he was called to do, what he was assigned to do so that he could then do what he was called to do. If we're not obedient in what we're assigned to do, then God, it's going to be hard for us to get into the situation to do what we're called to do. And so the Bible tells us, be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to wrath. Our culture has flipped that on its head to where our feelings trump everything else. We live in a culture today where our feelings have become God. And we may not view it that way, we may not say it that way, but that's what happens. Whatever dictates your decisions is your God.”

#TrustGodNotLeaders
“The answer wasn't the king. We put our stock way too much in political figures and leaders and people that are just as messed up as we are. Nehemiah wasn't trusting in the king. He was trusting in the gracious hand of God of all men. The reason the king answered the way he did was not to hurt. Nehemiah was a steel orator and stood before the king and convinced him with all his might that this is what the king needed to do. He said, be good if we had some letters and be good if we had some wood. That'd be great, right? No, he was unashamed of the source of the answer. He was unafraid to step into the position that God had prepared.”

#FromConsumerToDisciples
“And that is a transition that we desperately need in the modern American church. We have become consumers of religiosity. We come into the church and we expect to receive and we should receive, but we expect it to meet our needs and to fit our ambitions and to speak to us and make us feel certain things. And then we take that and consume it, and we refuse to bring it out into the world and share it with other people. And here's the transition with Nehemiah. He knew, he prayed, he trusted, he saw the Lord's glory. But there came that moment in his calling where he had to take a step.”
