Day 1: Storms Come to Everyone—Faithfulness in Tribulation

Storms are a universal part of life, touching every person regardless of their faith, righteousness, or kindness. No one is exempt from the tempests of loss, pain, disappointment, or grief, and it is a falsehood to believe that following Jesus guarantees a trouble-free existence. Instead, Jesus Himself promised that in this world we will have tribulation, but He also assured us of His victory over the world. The storms we face are not a sign of God’s absence or displeasure, but rather a part of living in a broken world, and how we weather these storms often shapes our spiritual destiny. [04:05]

"I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

Reflection: When you face hardship, do you tend to see it as a sign of God’s displeasure, or can you begin to see it as a part of life in a fallen world—an opportunity to trust in Christ’s overcoming power?

Day 2: Keep the Boat Afloat—Letting Go and Forgiving

When caught in a storm, the first step is to do everything possible to keep the boat afloat—maintain your relationships, your faith, and your connection to God. Sometimes this means letting go of grudges, forgiving those who have wronged you, and refusing to nurse old wounds. Holding onto bitterness only makes you a double victim, weighing you down and threatening your spiritual survival. Even when you have been wronged, it is in your best interest to release the hurt, for it is forgiveness and humility that keep your life from breaking apart in the storm. [14:32]

"Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."

Day 3: Stay with the Ship—The Safety of Spiritual Community

In the midst of the storm, it can be tempting to abandon ship and seek your own way out, but true safety is found in staying with the boat—remaining connected to the church and the people of God. Even when the church seems battered or imperfect, it is the vessel God has chosen to carry His people safely through the storms of life. Don’t look for the exit or an easy escape; instead, cut the lifeboats and commit to staying with the community of faith, trusting that God knows where you are and will bring you through. [19:57]

"And as the sailors were seeking to escape from the ship, and had lowered the ship’s boat into the sea under pretense of laying out anchors from the bow, Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, 'Unless these men stay in the ship, you cannot be saved.'"

Day 4: Beware After the Storm—Staying Close to the Fire

The danger does not end when the storm passes; in fact, the enemy often attacks when you think you are safe and let your guard down. After surviving the storm, it is crucial to stay close to the fire—remain near to God, engaged in worship, and connected to the move of the Spirit. Don’t allow yourself to grow cold or distant, for the enemy lies in wait to strike when you are weary. Like Paul shaking off the viper into the fire, you must remain vigilant and keep your heart burning for God, even after the crisis has passed. [27:49]

"Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world."

Day 5: Get Back in the Boat—Refusing to Let Yesterday’s Pain Define Tomorrow

No matter how violent the storm or how deep the loss, God calls you to get back in the boat and continue the journey He has for you. The pain of yesterday does not have to rob you of tomorrow’s hope; even after shipwreck and heartbreak, there is still a mission and a destination ahead. Refuse to let the enemy convince you to quit or believe that you are disqualified by your suffering. Instead, trust that God knows where you are, and with His help, you can keep walking, keep believing, and keep moving forward into His purpose for your life. [37:25]

"Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."

“Why so much detail why is our attention drawn to such things that none of us will ever experience in a sailing ship on the Mediterranean CAU in a tempest why because it is a metaphor for our experiences When Storms Come to Us not on the sea but in our lives not on the ocean but in our marriages in our families on our jobs and yes even in the house of God storms will come in fact I believe that if we go to heaven or not it'll be largely determined by how we weather storms.”

“If they overwhelm us uh if they sink us uh we'll be lost forever but if we can make it through the storm H if we can make it when things are tough uh if we can make it when everything says give up uh if we can go on when everything says just quit uh then we can make it to the end H it's the storm that tests us it's the storm that pushes us it's the storm that strengthens us H it's important to learn how to survive a storm.”

“The very best way to survive a storm is not to get in it in the first place just stay out of it and it's easy to survive it and you know I I'm I'm I I don't want to be negative I'm not going to be negative here today but I I want you to know that that the fact is sometimes we cause our own storms and if we're the cause of it how easy would it be just don't start it and then you don't have to worry about it.”

“If you're crotchety if you're grouchy if you're short-tempered get the Holy Ghost again if you can't get along with folks learn to get along with people get rid of your pride get rid of your grouchiness and learn to treat people with respect and love and kindness uh get rid of your pride and take the second seat sometimes allow someone else to be right I know that's hard when you're right all the time it's hard to allow someone who you know to be wrong to be right but if it keeps you out of a storm in your family if it keeps you out of a storm on the job if it keeps you out of a storm in the church then keep your mouth shut sit down and let the storm pass right on by and you'll be glad you did.”

“But the truth is most of the time we don't start the storm it's power and situations beyond our control if we could stop it we would stop it loss and pain and grief and sorrow and disappointment and and other people's decisions that we had no control over they can whip up the wind and the waves and they can put us in perilous situations good people get caught in storms people who work hard to stay out of trouble get in trouble things just go wrong and when you're in the storm there are some things you can do to survive it right you can do some things to let you find your way through the worst of storms.”

“You need to allow your spiritual mentors to guide your life uh you need to let somebody speak into your spirit uh and talk to you about God's plan and God's way and what God has planned in your life uh I believe if you'll let God speak to you through the preached word and through the guidance of your pastor and others uh that he will take care of the things beyond your control h he'll keep you out of the storm even when you can't do it yourself if you'll let God show you the way uh you can avoid the worst of the worst.”

“The first thing you can do is do what you can to keep the boat afloat keep your marriage going keep your relationships going keep your connection with the things of God Luke says that they they did several things they one scripture one verse says they used helps and they strengthened the ship I I've done some study on that and it seems there was an ancient technique that they would run ropes that would go under the the Keel under the bottom of the ship and come up the other side and they would winch them extremely tight and what that would do is hold the planks of the of the of the vessel together so that the violence of the Waves would not force water through it was called helps it was the things that helped keep the the boat afloat as long as the storm was going.”

“If you can keep the boat going you can make it through any storm I don't care how rough it is H if the boat stays on the top you can ride it out of the storm so you do what you need to do to keep the boat afloat if you need to say I'm sorry say I'm sorry if you need to forgive somebody forgive them let go of it I feel like preaching to somebody here today you may be the victim but you make yourself the double victim when you won't let go when you won't forgive when you nurse that Grudge uh when you hang on to yesterday's sles uh I know how it is I I've experienced it we all have we want them to pay they did wrong and if I let it go if I forgive them they'll never pay my friends let me tell you my experience they seldom pay anyway and you're the one that pays every day every week every month that you keep that Grudge and that ill feeling and yes even that hatred in your heart let it go turn it loose I know you're a victim it shouldn't have happened they were wrong but it's in your best interest H to keep the boat to Flat uh to quit hanging on to yesterday's slights H.”

“I know people that have held grudges against preachers and against Preachers Wives and against fellow Saints and they lost their souls over over it keep the boat float uh by letting go of the weight uh that will hold you down H keep the boat going I I like that in the middle of that storm when things were almost at the they were at their worst when all hope was lost Paul stands up one day I've always in my mind's eye seen him hanging on to a shattered Mass trying to ride out the storm and he calls out now these people given enough and that's not talking about just the preachers on the boat it was talking about the sailors they said there's nothing we can do there's no hope for us we're all going to die but Paul stands up and says don't worry well if there ever time Paul to worry this seemed like a good time but he said don't be downhearted be of good cheer for the God that I serve had sent an angel and he stood by me this night and he said everything's going to be all right.”

“Can I speak for God today keep the boat afloat uh and everything's going to be all right uh you're going to get through this storm I don't care what experience says I don't care what the experts say I don't care what the world says you're going to make it if you keep the B float he promised them that the boat was going to get them where you need they needed to go he said yeah there's going to be loss yeah things are wrong yes there's pain in the offing but God's going to see you through oh I feel in the Holy Ghost to preach to somebody right now don't you give up hope I don't care how bad it looks I don't care how long the road just stay where you belong and God is is going to see you through.”

“When God comes back did you know when Jesus comes he's not coming at back after individuals we like to say it and there's nothing wrong with it you know I'm making a point here but we like to say Jesus is coming back after me well okay I get that but he ain't coming after me unless I'm in the boat but he because he's coming for a church that have made herself ready not individuals scattered around through the world but he's coming home coming back to catch his church out of this world ladies and gentlemen you stay with the church I don't care how bad the storm you stay with the boat uh you don't leave the ship uh you stay in the church uh I know she's been sailing a long time and sometimes there's pops and creeks and all kinds of things but you stay with the boat because this boat's going to carry us all the way to the shore it's going to make it through storm and trouble and problem and disappointment there may even be persecution but if you stay with the ship Paul said just keep them in the boat so they cut the ropes and the lifeboats fell into the heaving sea and were washed away.”

“I challenge you cut the lifeboats don't look for the exit don't look for an easy way out don't look for an excuse just hunker down stay in the ship This ship's going to make it just stay with the boat oh I feel like praising him just a little bit God knows where we are God understands what we're going through old brother job said I can't find God I look out ahead I look to the right and left I look behind me I can't find him so what I'm going to do is I'm going to stay on the road that I've been on I'm going to keep walking the same path that I've been walking because when all of it's done when the storm is over I'm going to come through because God will know where to find me when I can't find him H stay in the ship stay in the boat H stay with the church then he'll know where you are.”

“You just keep doing what you do know what to do you know to pray keep praying when there's no answer you just keep on praying you You' be that importunate Widow that one who wouldn't take no for an answer that kept stopping the unjust judge and saying I got to have some help here you got to help me judge and Jesus said even though he was not a just man he ran out of patience and said I'm going to give you what you want because you won't quit bugging me about it well how about our heavenly father if you keep asking the answers coming so keep on asking you know to come to church why why is it what is it about us that when we need Church the most we're more likely to quit going to church what what what where's our brains at what in the world's going on and and when we need the front row the most we find ourselves on the back row when we need to be up there shouting and dancing and praising God in the middle of the storm we're sitting in the back with our head down and our hands down I don't know why we're like that do what you know to do at the first sound of the first note get out of that Pew make your way to the front say Jesus I can't feel you Jesus I can't find you but you're worthy of my praise H and I'm going to praise you regardless uh if you just keep doing what you know to do God is going to show up sooner or later.”

“The most dangerous time is after the storm has passed now now what happened in this case we're given we're giv Mye details they they started they started um sounding they would lower uh uh a device a little bucket thing and they would check both the the composition and the depth to the bottom and and it would it it was getting shallower and they knew they were approaching some land and and they were fearful of rocks and so they threw out anchors and they they tried to stay steady where they were then no morning came and they could begin to see and they saw they were near an island and they feared running on those rocks and so they spied a little creek that ran out into the ocean and they said if we can jam the ship up into that Creek where we can get off of her and get on solid land we can survive this and they tried they didn't make it but they tried and the ship ran up on the beach up on the land and started to break up from the violence of the Waves uh but the Bible says every one of them every one of them on broken pieces of ship and on other parts of the lady they made their way to Shore and not one Soul was lost When God says it it's going to happen like that when he says I'll never leave you I'll never forsake you you you may not can see him you may not can hear him you may not can feel him but he's going to be there because he said he would all of them made it and the people on that little Island.”

“The devil lies in weight when we think we're safe and that's when he attacks in the most deadly way be careful after you made it through the storm don't get careless if you move to the front to get through the storm stay in the front after the storm is over why cuz Paul looked at that Viper hanging a God no Paul wasn't a God he knew a God and that God delivered him from certain death ladies and Gentlemen even when the storm is over stay close to the fire stay near the move of God uh don't get cold again uh don't get far away come on and stay near.”

“However violent the storm however great your loss however deep your pain don't fear tomorrow because of what happened yesterday get back on the boat we got a place to go Paul you're going to preach to Caesar's household Paul you're going to you're going to bring hope to my people in Rome itself but she can't be afraid to get back in the boat don't hun her down I feel led to talk about something I only spoke of in public a few times.”

“No matter my experience no matter how tough the storm no matter how great the loss no matter what we've gone through I'm still going to preach it cuz it's in the book I'm still going to preach it because God is proven it over and over and over and over and over and over and I ain't quitting I'm just not quitting I'm just not giving up the storm isn't bad enough the pain is the deepest I've ever felt or probably ever will but I've got a God who knows where I am when I can't find him he knows where I am and I'm just going to keep walking I'm just going to keep preaching I'm just going to keep worshiping I'm just going to keep praying I'm going to keep believing cuz I got a destination Pastor.”

“I'm going to get back on the boat I'm going to get back on the sea I'm not going to be afraid of what may happen I'm not going to let yesterday rob me of my tomorrows I'm going to go on and on and on and on I know you're going through it I feeling in the Holy Ghost but I've got a message for you I'm hanging on to a shattered Mass I've been in that storm I know what it feels like but I've come to tell you be of good cheer for the God that I serve the god whose I am has given me a message for you hang on a little longer the clouds are going to break the Sun is going to rise Joy is coming in the morning just stay with it don't give up don't give in keep praying keep worshiping keep believing.”
