Day 1: Guarding the Heart with Diligence
Guarding your heart is a crucial aspect of living a disciplined life. Proverbs 4:23 emphasizes the importance of this practice, as it is from the heart that the issues of life flow. In a world where distractions and temptations abound, choosing the hard path of discipline over the pain of regret is essential. This discipline extends to every aspect of life, including maintaining a healthy marriage, managing finances, and taking care of physical health. By diligently guarding your heart, you can navigate life's challenges with wisdom and strength. [01:34]
"Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life." (Proverbs 4:23, ESV)
Reflection: What specific steps can you take today to guard your heart against distractions and temptations that may lead you away from God's path?
Day 2: Embracing Biblical Discipline
Discipline is not merely a secular concept but is deeply rooted in biblical truth. Hebrews 12 illustrates how discipline leads to righteousness, emphasizing the importance of ignoring immediate desires for a greater future reward. God disciplines us to produce spiritual fruit, and we are called to do the same with our bodies to avoid being disqualified from our calling. This requires self-control and a commitment to spiritual growth, as highlighted in 1 Corinthians 9, where athletes exercise discipline for a perishable reward, while Christians do so for an eternal one. [05:08]
"For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it." (Hebrews 12:11, ESV)
Reflection: Identify one area in your life where you struggle with discipline. What practical steps can you take to cultivate self-control and align this area with God's will?
Day 3: Navigating Temptations with Vigilance
The landmines of life are often rooted in the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. These temptations are common to all, but God provides a way of escape. It is crucial to be vigilant, standing firm in your faith, and acting like men and women of God. This involves removing excuses, avoiding triggers, owning mistakes, and repenting. By being proactive in your spiritual walk, you can navigate these temptations and remain steadfast in your faith. [24:09]
"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." (1 Corinthians 10:13, ESV)
Reflection: What is one temptation you face regularly, and how can you actively seek God's help to find the way of escape He provides?
Day 4: Crushing the Landmine of Pride
Pride is a dangerous landmine that must be crushed before it crushes you. It isolates you from God and others, creating barriers to genuine relationships and spiritual growth. Striving for humility involves genuine gratitude, obedience, and selflessness. By recognizing the destructive nature of pride and actively pursuing humility, you can foster a closer relationship with God and those around you. [52:21]
"Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." (Proverbs 16:18, ESV)
Reflection: Reflect on a recent situation where pride may have influenced your actions. How can you practice humility and seek reconciliation in that situation today?
Day 5: Becoming What We Behold
Ultimately, you become what you behold. By focusing on God and His Word, you will be transformed into His likeness. This transformation requires a balance of worship, prayer, and the Word, ensuring that your heart remains soft and receptive to His leading. As you navigate the landmines of life, remember that greatness is not defined by the absence of failure but by the resilience to rise and keep fighting. [58:44]
"And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit." (2 Corinthians 3:18, ESV)
Reflection: What are you currently beholding in your daily life that shapes your thoughts and actions? How can you intentionally focus more on God and His Word to be transformed into His likeness?
Sermon Summary
Leading through the landmines of life requires a deep understanding of biblical masculinity and the discipline to navigate the challenges that come our way. In today's world, masculinity is under attack, and it's crucial to return to the principles found in Scripture. Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to guard our hearts diligently, as from it flows the issues of life. This means choosing our battles wisely and understanding that discipline is essential in every aspect of life. Whether it's maintaining a healthy marriage, managing finances, or taking care of our physical health, we must choose the hard path of discipline over the pain of regret.
Discipline is not just a secular concept but deeply rooted in biblical truth. It involves ignoring immediate desires for a greater future reward, as seen in Hebrews 12, where discipline leads to righteousness. God disciplines us to produce spiritual fruit, and we must do the same with our bodies to avoid being disqualified from our calling. This requires self-control, as highlighted in 1 Corinthians 9, where athletes exercise discipline for a perishable reward, while Christians do so for an eternal one.
The landmines we face are often rooted in the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. These temptations are common to all, but God provides a way of escape. We must be vigilant, standing firm in our faith, and acting like men of God. This involves removing excuses, avoiding triggers, owning our mistakes, and repenting. Pride, in particular, is a dangerous landmine that must be crushed before it crushes us. It isolates us from God and others, and we must strive for humility, which involves genuine gratitude, obedience, and selflessness.
Ultimately, we become what we behold. If we focus on God and His Word, we will be transformed into His likeness. This requires a balance of worship, prayer, and the Word, ensuring that our hearts remain soft and receptive to His leading. As we navigate the landmines of life, let us remember that a man is not great because he hasn't failed, but because he gets up and keeps fighting.

Sermon Clips
Watch over your heart with all diligence for from it flows the issues of Life. One translation would say this one says from it flow the Springs of Life. In other words, as we guard our heart or as we watch over our heart with all diligence, that means it takes some work, it takes some time, it takes some effort. [00:01:36]
We have to remember something, for example, let's say man working on marriage sure is hard, isn't it? But so is a bad marriage. It is very hard. Saving financially and being wise stewards of our finances is hard, but poverty is hard. You have to choose your hard because either way it's going to be difficult. [00:02:24]
Discipline is everything, it is everything. And you kind of hear that, yeah, you're right, I guess so. But when you really look at all areas of life and even biblically speaking, there's lots of verses about it, how important it is. We must choose our best battles. We must trust, I'm sorry, we must trust our battle. [00:03:39]
Discipline and Destiny are closely related. God is Sovereign, but he also has decreed for us to do certain things. And that's why I often say we're waiting on God, but could it be sometimes that he's waiting on us? I've thought about that a lot recently. [00:04:44]
Discipline may be painful at first, but it can lead to righteousness. Now those of you who aren't maybe well versed in the Bible, that actually the context of that is when God spanks us. Have you ever been spanked by God? It's a big paddle, loving father. It hurts. [00:05:44]
God disciplines us to produce spiritual fruit. We also produce spiritual fruit when we discipline our body both physically and spiritually. So God disciplines us to get the results to some fruit. We discipline our body to produce some fruit. It's so important. [00:09:08]
Paul disciplines his body to avoid being disqualified from preaching. And I've heard this before, guys said, and they used to, you know, they would come up and say, yeah, but you know what, that was Paul, you know, I'm just such and such. Like, well, can you imagine if we could just cherry-pick verses like that? [00:09:34]
The Bible actually points out three landmines, and guys, if you get these down, memorize this verse, you can really get ahead of the enemy instead of him getting ahead of you. Because this is where all of our problems start. Every single issue starts right here, and we're dealing with our flesh. [00:23:49]
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man. So what is common to all of us? And on our radio network yesterday, I heard an incredible illustration with Jeff Wickwire. He goes bass fishing in Texas. We're friends, and he talks about how he throws the different lures out there to get those bass. [00:26:24]
Be on alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. First Peter 5:8, be sober, be vigilant because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. So let's take a breath for a minute. The hard part about a message like this, not for me necessarily. [00:29:35]
Crush Pride before it crushes you. Crush Pride before it crushes you. Number six, don't entertain compromise. How about that one? Do you know what compromise is? Oh yeah, that too. Yeah, I'll just, you know, you just kind of, and compromise in the simplest breakdown of it is this. [00:41:38]
Ultimately, you become what you behold. Don't you? What you behold, what you cherish, what you worship, you become what you behold. And if it's worshiping you and pride is an issue, be careful of that land mine. Be careful, guys. I see it all the time, especially with those who know the Bible well. [00:58:44]
