Legalism doesn't produce godliness; it stirs up the flesh. Lists of rules and the dos and the don'ts where God hasn't spoken but people want to declare their convictions. We got to be really careful there. It's important for us in all these things we've got to apply the word of God. [00:09:02]

We need to have consciences that are sensitive. If you're going to have a healthy conscience, you want it to be active for one, but you want it to be enlightened. Where's the light going to come from? It's got to be the word of God. So to avoid legalism, what are the kinds of things that you would stress? [00:09:56]

God promises to cleanse us from our idols, but this is a process. We must expect a battle with idols, recognizing that God will not allow us to bypass any hurdles. Our hearts are like thrones, and idols are usurpers trying to take the place of God. [00:44:21]

If God promises to cleanse you from all your idols, then guess what? You should expect a battle with idols. You should expect that there's going to be a series of these hurdles that you got to get over. You can't bypass one of the hurdles and go to the next one. God won't let you. [00:45:04]

Our life is a battle of idols. You can't get away from that. As much as we are free, as much as we don't want legalism, we also recognize he's come to cleanse us from our idols, and he knows how to do it. You can picture it much like this: the heart is like a throne. [00:45:28]

Ultimately, our journey is about full surrender to God. We must be willing to forsake all that we have, trusting that God will not demand anything that will harm us. This requires a deep trust in His character and a willingness to let go of anything that hinders our relationship with Him. [00:51:06]

We need to be in a place of full surrender. Unless you forsake all that you have, that text needs to just full surrender. What part of my life am I keeping from him right now? Where's that idol? Where's that piece of time? Where's that stuff in my life? [01:14:02]

We must live our lives not focused on what we cannot do, but on the positive aspects of following Christ and the freedom we have to serve Him. This involves filling our lives with good things and focusing on the opportunities we have to serve and glorify God. [00:23:52]

Trust in God's character is essential. We must believe that He will not demand anything from us that will harm us. Our willingness to surrender and trust Him is a testament to our faith and love for Him. [00:20:39]

We need to be people that talk with ourselves and talk to the conscience. What's wrong and why does this bother me? We have to be asking questions. All things are lawful, well, obviously what he means is all things are lawful that are lawful. [00:34:20]

We need to be careful that the convictions we come to, that we're very careful that we're not... It's great to have convictions. Somebody has a conviction, I can't have a TV. You say, well, David said that I'm not going to put anything useless before my eyes. [00:28:00]

Brethren, we need to emphasize this. We need to bring our consciences before the Lord and before his Gaze on a regular basis. We need to lay it out there. Brethren, we don't want to get to the place where our conscience is silent. That is a very dangerous place to be. [00:34:40]
