#BeLikeChrist
“Again, I need you to hear something today that's beyond the football analogy. I need you to hear this. The problem with the church today is we've moved the goalposts. Because the goalpost is Jesus. The end object is to be like Jesus. The end goal is to be like Christ. It's not to be like the person sitting next to you. Now, I know some of you are sitting next to amazing people, and you're like, oh, pastor, if I was like them, it'd be great. Well, they're here for a reason too. The goal is to be like Christ.”

#CovenantWithGod
“And Hosea returns to this imagery of marriage, and he says, you've been unfaithful. God had loved her, had provided for, protected her, chosen her. Yet she still gave her heart to everything else. See, sin is not merely breaking the rules. Sin's not merely break. We've gotten in our minds that just if you break a rule, oh, no, that's sin. No, no. Sin is deeper than breaking a rule. Sin is breaking the covenant with God. See, this is this is so much bigger than oops, I did something I should not have done. This is I have violated a relationship.”

“But that's how we treat God. We're like, I've got God. He's in the trunk underneath the bags of stuff. Was supposed take the goodwill ten months ago. He's under there. But if I ever need him, I can get to him. If I ever need him, I can I can get back there, and I can go? I can pull him out, and he saves the day. Guess what? If he's driving the car, you don't need him in the trunk.”

#FalseSaviors
“And we run to our Assyria. We run to money and career and politics and sex and pornography and alcohol and relationships and entertainment and success and control and social media, even religious activities. But we've asked created things to fix what only the creator can heal. See, we run to all the false saviors. They can provide momentary help. Entertainment can distract you, and alcohol can numb you. And pornography can stimulate you, money can reassure you. Success can validate you, and control can give you temporary confidence. But none of them can do what God can.”

#ChooseHumility
“See, pride makes repentance difficult. Repentance says I was wrong. Pride says I can explain it to you. Repentance says I need to change. Pride says other people just need to understand. Repentance says God is right, but pride says, my situation is different. See, one of the clearest signs of spiritual maturity is teachability. you be corrected? Can you be confronted? Can scripture tell me I'm wrong? Can my spouse point out something in my life that I've become defensive over? Can a friend tell me the truth? And can God interrupt what I want?”

#GodKnows
“See, the most important question is not do people know? The most important question we have to under ask ourselves is do I understand that God already knows? And strangely enough, the truth is not only terrifying to us that God already knows. God knows your heart. He knows the depth of your sin. It's not only terrifying, but it's freeing because you don't have to hide anything from him. We do such a great job in our culture of trying to hide our sin, but we don't have to hide from God. He already knows.”

#ConfessYourSins
“You may ask yourself then, why do we have to confess to God? Why do we need to confess to God? Confession is not freeing. It's not it's not informing God. It's not running to God and going, hey, God. I know you didn't know this, but I'm really jacked up. I got some big issues. That's not what con... Confession is. Confession is going to God and going, hey, God. I agree with you. I'm really messed up. I've lied. I've cheated. I've I've I've done things that disappoint you. You're agreeing with God when it comes to that point. Because God already knows.”

#SinDesensitizes
“And when we return to sin over and over and over, what we're saying to God is that, God, it's no big deal. Because what happens is something that used to bother you no longer bothers you. What once produced conviction in you no longer produces conviction. What you used to resist, you now start defending. It's not a big deal. See, if sin has tolerated it long enough, eventually it begins to shape the person that tolerates it.”
