#FaithNotFairytale
“``I think so often there's this deep lie that we live that everything's gonna go great when we follow Jesus, and that is nowhere in scripture. But where is in scripture is that when God's people are in obedient in obedience and living a straight line, that does not mean there won't be a pothole, but living in a direct line with the resurrected Christ that God is gonna do something powerful in their world. Because God is always gonna show up. Because God, the god of creation, the god of redemption, the god of resurrection, deeply wants to continue to redeem and align his people with himself. That means your inconvenience may possibly be part of that story.”

#PraiseBeforePetition
“David has not made a single request yet. I want you to notice that, that David starts with declaring the truth of who God in his life, the reality of how he wants to live his day, what he sees in the world that is not in alignment, and how he wants to respond. He has not made a single request yet. And my invitation to you is what shapes your day? Do you go to Jesus in prayer always asking for something first? Not a problem if you do, but I invite invite you to notice that. I wonder what it might look like for you to slow down and just say, god, I'm actually just going to acknowledge who you are in my life. That is actually a powerful practice in prayer of just acknowledging who Jesus is before you start asking for anything.”

#TrustGodsShield
“This is the third time in the in the Psalms we've looked at this summer that shield has come up. And, again, it's this visual of protection and care. And I would invite the question, do you trust God to give you the protection and care you need when you need it? Are you willing to lean into the relationship with Jesus that regardless what's going on in your life, regardless of what inconvenience, what pothole you're hitting, what may be pressing on you and your loved ones, wherever you may be, do you trust that the living God who you have a relationship with will show up in a way that he will show you the path he has for you, that it will be straight? Do you trust that this living relationship with God actually changes all things?”

#StartYourDayWithGod
“And I would invite you to go back to the question I asked you at the top. What shapes your day? What shapes your day? For David, it was prayer in the morning, that his morning would be shaped by this daily rhythm of prayer, and that's my hope. That is actually my prayer for us. That whenever you arise, whether you're a 05:01 or a 10:01 morning person, that your morning is bathed in just god going, hey, god. Here's who you are in my life. Lament. Here's my heart. Here's my prayers. I'm gonna trust you. I'm gonna wait expectantly for you show up. And that may be your household. It may be your business. It may be your classroom. It may be wherever you go. But I I anticipate that the resurrected Jesus is gonna speak to you this week.”

#StayConnectedToChrist
“I often find when people are like, hey, like, tell me how to follow Jesus. It's like, yes, there are some fun principles and and foundational things that we do in following Jesus, but it's really when we are in love with who Christ is, it naturally comes out of us because that's part of the Holy Spirit. If you wanna know what it looks like to follow Jesus with passion, with submission, with an act of worship, stay as connected to him as possible, and God's spirit's gonna do what God's spirit does and show up.”

#TrustAndStep
“Sometimes waiting expectantly is, god, I do not know the next step, but because of my relationship with you, I think I am gonna go this direction and we're gonna find out. For some of you, that just got really uncomfortable. What? Go somewhere and I don't know the directions? That's what the GPS is for. Sometimes when we think about this idea of waiting expectantly, we go, hey, I I really don't know what to do. It's like, great. What would you love to clear up in your life to know what to do? What racket, what noise is happening that maybe as you're praying and crying out to the lord, you're not hearing because there's all these other things that you have in your day? And I love the fact that David says, I'm gonna wait expectantly. So hear my cry this morning. You're my lord and my god. And in hearing my cry, I'm gonna watch how you show up.”

#RelationshipOverRules
“And one of the things that I have found deeply satisfying about myself, and I found this with others, is when we talk about following Jesus, we talk about living in obedience to god, we're really good with just tell me what to do. Just tell me how to operate. Let me come to the bible study. Let me come to church. Tell me what to do and I'll go do it. We really love just show me what to do. And yet what David consistently brings us back to is, hey, it's not just like what you do. That is actually gonna solve itself. When you are in love, when you are in a relationship with who God is, what to do naturally comes out of that.”

#WorshipInTheStorm
“David, again, earlier, he says, I bow down in worship. Worship is a natural response for those that haven't experienced with the living God. Worship is a natural response when we encounter the resurrected Christ. Worship is a natural response when we're with God's people and we feel encouraged and loved. Worship is a natural response when we acknowledge who God is in our lives and we begin to see how he shows up. Worship is a natural response. And even in David running for his life, he is worshiping.”
