Sermon Summary

Moses calls Israel to hear God’s statutes, learn them, and be careful to do them. The commandments are not suggestions or ideas to consider. They are solemn directives from the God who brought His people out of slavery, and they require a real choice: obey or disobey. Partial obedience is disobedience. Obedience brings blessing, while disobedience releases consequences.

The choice to obey becomes personal wherever God exposes an opening in somebody’s life. The hole left uncovered in the terrace became a place where birds kept pushing in twigs, leaves, and feathers until bags of junk had to be cleared out. The same thing happens when conviction comes but nothing gets sealed up. God reveals the gap, but each person must repent, clean it out, and make the active choice to close the door.

Jesus affirms that God’s law does not change because culture changes, government changes, or people get comfortable with what everybody else is doing.
