#BringPeaceIntoChaos
“You see, this is what it means to be the light of the world. That we can't calm storms, we don't have all the answers, but we have a holy calling to carry the prince of peace into the storms of other people's lives. You see, the storm is not the highest authority in the room. The storm does not have the final say. Jesus does. And so where does Jesus go? He goes to places of chaos. So where do we go? We move into places of chaos, and we extend the presence and the peace of Jesus there.”

#PeaceOverChaos
“What we see is Jesus doesn't avoid this storm. In fact, he then leads his disciples through the storm, and it's in this storm that they discover something that they might not have learned anywhere else. That the prince of peace is greater than the chaos that was surrounding them. That the dude who was asleep in the boat is the guy who led them through that storm and he dispensed peace in a supernatural way.”

#WeAllNeedJesus
“You see, the truth is that each one of us comes to Jesus with a desperate need, and it's for him. And each one of us come to Jesus empty handed. You see, our circumstances may look different, but our need is all the same. Friends, that we need Jesus. And so that is why we go, and that is why we go to the places Jesus went. Because as you and I need Jesus, so too do those around us.”

#JesusForEveryone
“You see, but Luke chapter eight reminds us of something much deeper, that the successful need Jesus. Luke chapter eight reminds us that the respected need Jesus. Luke chapter eight reminds us that the grieving need Jesus. Luke chapter eight reminds us that the educated need Jesus. Luke chapter eight reminds us that the anxious and the lonely and the wealthy and the healthy and the poor and the religious and the irreligious that they need Jesus.”

#ChristGoesWithUs
“You see church, I think this is what meets us in our lives, is that Jesus no longer climbs into the boats of our lives physically, But through the Holy Spirit, he lives within his people. And that means wherever followers of Jesus go, the presence of Christ goes with them. And so when you and I walk into that hospital room, when we sit beside our grieving friends, when we hold the hand of those who are going through hardships or trials or difficult moments, when we stand with people whose lives are falling apart, we don't do those things alone. The prince of peace goes with us.”

#MoveTowardTheBroken
“One of the things I think that we have got to remember is that often hurting people don't always need solutions. Hurting people aren't always looking for this the right answer. I think first and foremost, hurting people are looking for someone who cares. Looking for someone who will sit with them, who will walk with them through this season. They need people who are willing to move towards them. And this morning as we have read Luke chapter eight, what we find in Jesus' movements and in Jesus' going is that Jesus is always moving towards the broken.”

#PeaceInTheStorm
“We find that Luke chapter eight. But where do we find Jesus in the midst of this chaotic moment? The dude is asleep in the boat. Not because he didn't care, but maybe just maybe Jesus was completely at rest in his father's care. And while the disciples overwhelmed with this chaotic moment, this chaotic scene, Jesus is resting and he's at peace and the disciples go and they wake him in a panic and Jesus stands and he rebukes the wind and waves. He tells them to be still and suddenly the waves and the winds, the sea is now calm and Jesus brings this peace of heaven into the middle of earthly chaos. But you see something that stands out to me from Luke chapter eight is that Jesus didn't avoid the storm.”

#CompassionInAction
“You see, what we begin to see in Luke chapter eight is this incredible picture of the father's compassionate heart. That over and over again, Jesus is moving towards hurting people. And I wonder if that is still the call of Jesus for his church this day. That wherever God places us in our neighborhoods, in our workplaces, in our schools, in our coffee shops, in our homes, that we are to move towards people with the compassion of Christ.”
