From Empty to Full | A Miracle of Provision

We’re in our Christmas series, A Christmas Miracle, learning to notice the quiet ways God is already moving. Today I walked us through Ruth’s story as a window into the miracle of provision. Ruth and Naomi return to Bethlehem emptied by loss. Naomi renames herself “Mara”—bitter—and wonders if God has afflicted her. That ache is real, and many of us feel it most in this season. But the first miracle isn’t always God changing our circumstances; it’s God redeeming our journey—meeting us in the ache, strengthening us through the waiting, and guiding our next faithful step.

Ruth takes that next step. She chooses the harder path, leaves what is familiar, and moves toward the God of Israel. “As it turned out,” she lands in Boaz’s field—no coincidence, but quiet providence. Boaz becomes a guardian-redeemer: he protects, provides, and ultimately marries Ruth, restoring what grief had emptied. This is the shape of redemption: someone pays a cost to restore what was lost. God’s provision for tomorrow begins with His redemption today—He brings us from emptiness to fullness, from bitterness to blessing, often through the vessel of a person willing to cover, protect, and provide.

Boaz points beyond himself. While Boaz redeems a family, Jesus redeems the world. Jesus is our true Guardian-Redeemer who covers us at His own cost, reclaiming what belongs to the Father. So our question isn’t, “How do I fix everything?” but, “What is my next faithful step toward Jesus?” For some of us, that step is practicing kingdom ways—less anger, more listening, more self-control, less condemnation. For others, it’s radical generosity—becoming a “Boaz” for someone else. As our church grows and faces space constraints, we’re praying about a Miracle Fund to expand ministry capacity—especially for our kids and students. I’m simply asking you to pray: for wisdom, for provision, and for what part God wants you to play. I believe He will provide. The invitation is to wait faithfully, watch closely, and be ready to participate in the miracle He’s unfolding among us.
