Melchizedek was the king of righteousness he was the King of Jerusalem he was the king of peace and perhaps most significantly at all he was priest of the god most high and he functioned as a priest especially towards Abraham he functioned as a priest when he served Abraham that sacrificial and significant meal of bread and wine. [00:01:06]

The Lord has sworn and will not relent you are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek now just look at that phrase just for a moment God the Father swears and he makes a solemn oath not speaking to David but speaking to David's greater son Jesus the Messiah. [00:02:46]

If the Levitical order priesthood which you may call it Levitical because it was from the tribe of Levi or you may call it the ironic order because it was the family of Aaron in the tribe of Levi if that priesthood was the ultimate priesthood what need would there be for God to bring another one and announce another order of priesthood. [00:04:04]

The priesthood of Aaron was based completely upon genetics the firstborn son of the firstborn son of the firstborn son that's how it was handed down it had nothing to do with character it had nothing to do with particular calling upon a person's life it was all genetics it was if you will based on genetics and rituals. [00:10:02]

The law does a great job of setting God's eternal standard we see the heart of God we see the standard of God set forth in the law but you know what it doesn't do the law gives you no power to actually keep the law that's why it says right there in verse 19 the law made nothing perfect. [00:13:36]

The law is like that x-ray it shows Oh your arms broken it's very bad but friends I can't take that x-ray and rub it on my arm and heal it that's not going to do any good is it no but rather the x-ray was important but I need the doctor to come in and set that bone straight and make it whole once again. [00:15:12]

The center of your Christian life is it's what Jesus Christ has done for you especially what he did for you on the cross now is what I do forgot important of course it is but only in its proper place first I focus on Jesus and what he did for me and then following after that comes how I should respond. [00:16:30]

Jesus Christ gives you a better hope because of his did work but notice it it's very powerful here in verse 19 where it says a better hope through which we draw near to God that's another contrast between the freedom we have in Jesus and the legal relationship represented by Aaron and that priesthood. [00:17:50]

Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant I love that phrase even though it's a little archaic I don't know what it says in your particular translation but my New King James Version it says that Jesus has become a surety of a better call what society that's I could guarantee it's a down payment. [00:20:29]

Jesus has an unchangeable priesthood Jesus will never die he has a permanent priesthood you don't have to worry about a bad priest replacing him he remains the same yesterday today and forever therefore look at it very powerful in verse 25 he is also able to save to the uttermost think about it to the furthest extension of your need. [00:23:38]

He ever lives to make intercession for them I can't tell you how many times that one line has cheered my soul and giving me confidence in the ability to go forward to know that Jesus Christ in heaven is praying for me it says that he ever lives he ever lives to do what he ever lives to stroke a harp in heaven. [00:28:34]

Jesus just as Melchizedek was priest over Abraham would you be a priest over me would you remind me of the cross through that meal of the bread and the cup would you receive the tithes that I give unto you Jesus and would you bless me in the name of God Most High. [00:32:45]
