Maximizing the Mundane: Living as God's Masterpieces
Summary
Today, we explored the profound truth that each of us is called to express the glory of God in our everyday lives. This isn't just a lofty ideal but a practical reality that God has purposed for each of us. We are reminded that God has a unique plan for our lives, and we are gifted beyond our understanding. Our lives are not ordinary; they are filled with divine potential and purpose. We are God's masterpieces, created anew in Christ Jesus to do good works that He has prepared in advance for us. This means that every moment, every interaction, and every task, no matter how mundane, is an opportunity to bring glory to God.
We delved into the concept of "maximizing the mundane," which means recognizing that there is no such thing as an ordinary day or moment. Every second is pregnant with possibility and the potential for God to work through us. This perspective challenges us to live with excellence, as even the smallest actions can reflect God's glory. We are encouraged to see ourselves as God sees us—valuable, loved, and capable of great things. This understanding transforms how we live, prompting us to seize every moment and live with intentionality and purpose.
Furthermore, we discussed the importance of not allowing others to minimize God's work in us. We are more capable and gifted than we often realize, and God has equipped us to do good things that benefit others and bring Him glory. We are called to step out in faith, using our unique gifts and talents to serve others and advance God's kingdom. This requires boldness and a willingness to break free from the limitations others may place on us.
In conclusion, we are reminded that our lives are not for sale; we are bought with a price and are God's masterpieces. We are called to live in a way that reflects His glory, maximizing every moment and opportunity to serve and love others as Jesus did.

Quotes

"Several years ago God gave me this this thesis it's the thesis of my life you could ask Sonia that in his three words maximize the mundane maximize the mundane you have to always keep in mind that there's no such thing as an ordinary day there's no such thing as an ordinary moment I mean I'm not just talking about carpe diem seize the day I'm talking about carpe memento seizing every moment because every moment in life is pregnant with possibility every moment in life has the has the opportunity of the infinite and how God can leverage every moment in life every day is a gift and so your life is not common your life is not ordinary you're not run of the mill so don't minimize a moment don't minimize a day don't minimize a second you know the psalmist David said teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom notice he said teach us to number our days we number our years right if someone lives to be 95 years old man that's a long life but if you live to be 95 95 years that's only 33 ,000 days some of you are already doing the math because you live 20 ,000 days you've got what 13 ,000 days left I mean every day counts or teach us to number our days so that we may apply our hearts to wisdom so that we can maximize the mundane David also said this is the day come on somebody this is the day that the Lord has some with us thank you very much and for the day that we can catch up with all the ideas that we can" [00:06:54] (92 seconds)
"In 1 Corinthians chapter 10, it says this, verse 31, it says, Whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, and the context is eating meat sacrificed to idols. He says, whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, you do it all for what? The glory of God. Whether you've got a cup of coffee in your hand, whether you're eating a hot dog or going to Chick -fil -A. Whatever you eat or drink, you do it all for the glory of God. And make sure you don't live your life in a way that is offensive, he said, to the Jews or the Gentiles or the church. He said, why? So that many people can be saved." [00:12:34] (32 seconds)
"We're going to land in Ephesians the rest of the sermon, but Ephesians 2 .10 says, look at it. It says, for you are or we are God's masterpiece. And I'll stop right there. We'll quote some of this later. You are God's masterpiece. And the Greek word there is pomia, which we get the word poem or poetry or song. You are God's song. You are God's masterpiece. You are God's poetry. If you're walking through downtown Richmond and there's a street artist and you see what they're painting and you say, that looks ugly. That's awful. You wouldn't do that. You wouldn't. Well, why do we talk to ourselves that way? You don't have the right to talk to yourself. I hate myself. I'm mad at myself. I'm no good. Don't speak those words over yourself. I believe somebody needs to hear that word today. Why? Because you're God's work of art. You're not your own. You've been bought with a price. You are valuable." [00:13:31] (49 seconds)
"So how do you see yourself? It's important to see yourself as God sees you. Well, how does God see you? Well, to answer that question, how does God see Jesus? See, when God sees you, he sees Jesus. You say, I don't believe that. Yes. Okay, let's look how he sees Jesus. Two times the father said to Jesus, you are my beloved son in whom I am well pleased. At his baptism and at the Mount of Transfiguration. Oh, well, we get that. He would be pleased with his only begotten son, but not me. Well, if you have faith in Jesus, come on, somebody." [00:14:20] (36 seconds)
"The gospel, the word of God is so efficacious. When we understand the good news message of Jesus that he came and gave his life for us, he took the generational curse away from us because of our faith in him. When did this happen? When you go to the gospels, okay, let me back up. You go to Jeremiah 31, and I won't take time to read all of this, but in Jeremiah 31, 29 through 34, it says that the time is coming. They will no longer have this saying that the fathers who eat the sour grapes, the children get the sour taste. But he said, behold, there is a new covenant coming." [00:21:33] (38 seconds)
"Think of Jesus going to the cross. The day that, you know, he was wounded for our transgressions. We know he was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon him. And by his stripes, we are healed. In the passion of Christ, he bled out all day long. He was crowned with thorns. His back was beaten to a bloody pulp. He, he, he was pierced. His hands were pierced. His feet were pierced. But he didn't just come to the cross to bleed out for us. Obviously there's atonement through the shedding without the shedding of blood. There is no remission of sins, but check it out y 'all on the way to Calvary's Hill. They offered Jesus a drink and he refused it because it wasn't time yet. You remember in the garden, he said, let this cup pass for me. What cup are we talking about? Well, when he's hanging on the cross, you read in John 19, when the Bible says that he, when he saw that all things were fulfilled in order to fulfill scripture, he said, I thirst. You read in John 19, he saw a jar of sour wine. He's not asking for water. He's not, he's not thirsty per se, but he's doing this to fulfill scripture. He's, and this is so powerful to see this. He, when the Bible says when he received the sour wine, that is when he said it's finished. And so when we believe that Jesus came, his teeth were set on edge so that you're not proverbially, all right? He took the generational curse from your great, great, great grandparents. Y 'all, this is something worth shouting about." [00:22:23] (92 seconds)
"Say, yeah, you're God's masterpiece. You're priceless. You're made of good stuff, but check it out, y 'all. Ephesians 2 .10, we are His workmanship. We are His masterpiece. Created anew in Christ Jesus. Check it out. To do what? To do good things that He's prepared in advance for us to do. So God planned. You want to know God's plan? God has planned for you to do good things. Now, we don't, you know, good works do not bring salvation, but salvation does produce good works, right? You know, God's not just interested in you. He wants interest from you. Fruit that comes from your life, and so He created you and me to do good things. He's planned on us doing good things. You say, I don't feel like I, no." [00:24:33] (48 seconds)
"As you've done unto the least of these, you've done unto me. We let this mind be in you, which is also in Christ Jesus. We have this heart of a servant to serve like Jesus, but when we look at people, we see Jesus in them. I want to serve you like I would serve Jesus. Jesus, the disciples, Lord, when were you sick? When weren't you in prison? He says, you've done it unto the least of these, you've done it unto me. So, God planned in advance for you to do good stuff. So, what are you good at? I think we're, now I want to close with this, the musicians can come, but we are more capable than we realize. We are more qualified and gifted than we give ourselves, or God, we're more, we're more gifted than we give God credit for. Really, we are. So, what are you good at? I mean, you might be good at a lot of stuff, you haven't been paying attention, but you have been gifted, you have a supernatural gift, you have a practical gift that God is going to use you so that you can maximize the mundane of everyday life and bring Him glory. Now, a lot of people are good at stuff that doesn't matter." [00:25:59] (61 seconds)
