In Jesus, God is doing a new work. It's a new thing. And in fact, God's kingdom, the kingdom of heaven, is breaking into the world. The kingdom of god goes wherever the people of god go and wherever they live out the will of god, wherever they forgive and love and pray and offer salvation through Jesus Christ. There goes the kingdom of god. Think of it like this. The kingdom of heaven involves the rule of heaven in the hearts of god's people. The rules the rule of heaven is a spiritual nature. In Matthew, we hear that Jesus' spiritual that there's a spiritual earthquake that happens when Jesus hits the world. The power of god is unleashed, and the kingdom of heaven is out. It's at hand. What kingdom are you putting your hope in? What king's will are you pursuing and living out? The will of Jesus or the will and power of this world? Jesus offers us a kingdom beyond the troubles of this world, one that we can live in now and for eternity. It's a spiritual kingdom where god rules the hearts of his people through the working of the holy spirit. The kingdom of heaven begins now in our hearts and minds, culminates when he comes again, when there's a new heaven and a new earth described in Peter chapter three and Revelation 21. But in Matthew, what Jesus reveals is that God is gonna go beyond what anybody thought or imagined, what anybody could ever dream of. One king for all time, never ending, the kingdom of heaven. Matthew and Matthew, Jesus is talking about a very different kingdom, a kingdom so radical that everything he does in the gospel of Matthew is trying to communicate what sort of kingdom he what sort of king he is and what sort of kingdom we live in.
