Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

John is a very humble fellow he is not really exalting himself there's one that's coming after me he's greater than I am so much so I'm not really worthy to untie his sandals now he's gonna baptize you I'm baptizing with water he's gonna baptize you with the Holy Spirit. [00:07:51]

John as he was calling the people to repentance was pointing forward to Jesus when John was with his disciples we are told in the Gospel of John and Jesus came John said to his disciples behold the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world and John testifying of Jesus said he must increase and I must decrease. [00:10:05]

We see here the three persons of the Godhead we see Jesus being baptized the Holy Spirit descending upon him in the form of a dove and the voice of the Father speaking from heaven saying this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased now there are people who are opposed to what we call the teaching of the Trinity. [00:12:42]

Jesus' choice of simple fishermen as His disciples highlights God's preference for using ordinary people to fulfill His extraordinary purposes. This encourages us to offer ourselves to God, trusting that He can use our lives for His glory. [00:25:24]

The Lord uses just plain simple people to accomplish his purposes and for good reason and that is that he might receive the glory as Paul wrote God hasn't chosen many wise many great many powerful men but actually just simple plain people that he might come found the wise and and so God loves to use just plain ordinary people. [00:26:42]

Jesus' authority over demons and diseases, coupled with His compassion for the marginalized, reveals His divine nature and His heart for humanity. His willingness to touch the untouchable challenges us to extend love and grace to those society often overlooks. [00:39:35]

Jesus was moved with compassion he put forth his hand and touched him and he said I will be thou clean a leper was untouchable it was required that a person who had leprosy if you were approaching him he was required to cry out unclean unclean to keep you from getting very close. [00:39:35]

When Jesus saw their faith he said to the sick of the palsy son thy sins are forgiven thee so this morning we of course dealt on this passage and if you want a fuller kind of exposition I would refer you to the morning tape on this particular issue Jesus saw their faith that is the faith of the four friends. [00:49:13]

They were wrong in that they thought it was blasphemous they were right in realizing only God can forgive sins that's true only God can forgive you your sin but for Jesus to say your sin is forgiven is not blasphemy because Jesus is God so immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they were reason. [00:48:00]

Jesus said let your light so shine before men that when they see your good works they will glorify your father which is in heaven it's possible to do your good works in such a way as to draw attention to yourself and men will glorify you this is one of the problems that I have with some of the TV evangelists. [00:50:16]

Jesus was eating with them now in that culture to eat with a person was tantamount to becoming one with that person you have to understand their eating habits they didn't have beautiful table setting with utensils and all they had balls of soup they had bowls of sauces they had the flatbread and they would pull off of the flatbread. [00:59:09]

Jesus is bringing a new gospel you see the Pharisees and the scribes are the old skins they're set here's something that is new its revolutionary and you can't take the old set systems and introduce into them something that is new people get so set in traditions that they can't accept a new work of the Spirit. [01:03:39]
