God is not silent or distant; He is a personal and intentional communicator who desires to speak directly to you. His primary method of communication is through the Scriptures, which are alive and active. He has specific truths and promises for you to discover each time you open His Word. This is an invitation to approach the Bible with expectancy, knowing that God wants to meet you there. [28:48]
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12 ESV)
Reflection: As you consider your current approach to reading the Bible, what is one practical step you could take this week to engage with Scripture more expectantly, anticipating that God has something specific to say to you?
The call of Jesus to "follow me" often requires an immediate and decisive response. This is not a call to simply agree with an idea, but to embark on a new way of life with Him. It involves leaving behind old patterns and priorities to embrace the new identity and mission He offers. Following is an active, ongoing commitment to walk in His footsteps each day. [38:43]
“And immediately they left their nets and followed him.” (Mark 1:18 ESV)
Reflection: Is there an area of your life where you sense Jesus is calling you to follow Him more immediately or completely, and what would it look like to take one concrete step of obedience in that area this week?
Jesus Christ possesses all authority, not just in teaching but over the spiritual and physical realms. His power is greater than any sickness, any oppression, or any force that stands against you and your loved ones. This truth is a firm foundation for your prayers and a source of great comfort and courage in the face of any challenge. [39:52]
“And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, ‘What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.’” (Mark 1:27 ESV)
Reflection: When you consider the specific pressures or challenges you are currently facing, how does recognizing Jesus’ complete authority change the way you can pray about them with faith and hope?
A life of following Jesus involves a daily choice to surrender your own will and agenda. It is a call to die to self-centeredness and to embrace the life and mission God has for you, even when it is difficult. This is the path to finding your true life, purpose, and soul’s satisfaction in Him. [51:22]
“And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.’” (Mark 8:34 ESV)
Reflection: What is one specific, perhaps comfortable, part of your own will or agenda that Jesus might be inviting you to surrender to Him today in order to follow Him more freely?
The reality of the resurrection is the foundation of our hope and the power for our mission. Because Jesus is alive, His promises are true and His command to proclaim the gospel is urgent and achievable. This power is not just a historical event but a present reality that works in and through those who believe. [01:20:49]
“And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.’” (Mark 16:15 ESV)
Reflection: In light of the resurrection, who is one person in your world that God might be gently placing on your heart to share His love with, and how can you begin to pray for them this week?
The gospel of Mark unfolds as a propulsive account that centers Jesus’ identity, authority, and mission. Mark divides the narrative into three movements—Galilee, the journey to Jerusalem, and the climactic events in Jerusalem—and demonstrates Jesus’ divine sonship through words, works, and final vindication. Scenes of baptism and transfiguration foreground a heavenly attestation that names Jesus “beloved” and commands attentive obedience. Teaching and parables reveal both the nature of God’s kingdom and the hardness of human hearts; Jesus speaks plainly to his disciples while using parables to stretch the crowd’s capacity to hear.
Miracles punctuate the narrative to display authority over sickness, demons, nature, and death: exorcisms, healings, the feeding of five thousand, and walking on the sea all function as signs that the kingdom has broken into history. Calls to discipleship press followers toward costly commitment—leaving nets, denying self, taking up the cross—and expose how quickly fear and misunderstanding can fracture loyalty. The plot tightens as public acclaim gives way to opposition: temple confrontation, calculated betrayal, arrest, and a trial that insists on Jesus’ kingly claim even as legal powers decline into spectacle.
The crucifixion presents both human rejection and cosmic fulfillment: mockery and abandonment surround Jesus, yet the temple curtain tears and a centurion confesses what the narrative has argued all along. Burial gives way to an empty tomb and angelic announcement, and the risen Jesus commissions the disciples to proclaim the gospel to all creation. The closing vision links resurrection and mission—signs will accompany belief as the church goes out, and the risen Lord ascends to the right hand of God while the apostles carry the message forward. Interwoven with these biblical scenes, practical invitations urge memorizing scripture, participation in ministry arts, and responsive prayer, helping connect the narrative’s theology to everyday discipleship.
Or maybe you've never actually begun a relationship with God. Maybe you would come to church. Maybe you've done you know, you're just kinda going through the motions or whatever. But you never actually done what Jesus called you to do. He said deny yourself. Take up your cross. Follow me. You never actually died to yourself to say, Lord, what do you want from me? Not what do I want from me in my life. What do you want? Never received his forgiveness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit because you haven't actually walked with him yet.

When Jesus appointed the apostles, he he said it for three reasons that they first might be with him, that he might send them out to preach and have authority to cast out demons. Maybe you're here today and you just need to be with him. He's calling you to be with him, spend time in his presence in the secret place. Personal worship, personal prayer, personal time in work. Maybe he's even calling you to fast and spend time with him in a deeper way. That's you talk with him about that right now.

Alright. In the second, we're gonna pray. Whether you raised your hand and say, I need to begin that relationship with God for the first time or or that you've been following Jesus for a long time. I want you to actually repeat this prayer after me. Because how many of you know we need the gospel every day to continue to transform us? So if you've been following Jesus for a long time or you just raised your hand for the first time, I just wanna invite you to, pray this prayer out loud after me. Let's pray.

You're ready to follow him and walk with him, I wanna invite you to do that today. If that's you, you say, I need to begin that relationship with God, following him. I just want you to acknowledge that between you and God by slipping your hand up where I can see and say, that's me today. I need to begin to walk with God. I need to give him the reins, the driver's seat.

Maybe you're here, and the enemy has been beating you up or someone in your family, friend. And God is calling you to take up the sword of the spirit and do spiritual warfare against the enemy and resist the devil so that he will flee from you. If that's who you know, you know who you are this morning. Talk with God with God about that right now.
