Day 1: Recognizing Jesus in the Storm

When we are in the midst of struggle, it is easy to misinterpret what God is doing or even fail to recognize His presence altogether. The disciples, straining at the oars in the darkness, saw Jesus walking on the water and thought He was a ghost, crying out in fear. How often do we, in our own storms, expect doom or miss God’s nearness because we are focused on the worst possible outcome? God invites us to look for Him, not for disaster, and to trust that He is present even when circumstances are frightening or unclear. [01:17:44]

And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land. And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them, but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out, for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”

Day 2: Striving in Our Own Strength vs. Trusting God

The disciples were doing exactly what Jesus told them to do, yet they found themselves straining against the wind, exhausted and making little progress. Sometimes, even in obedience, we rely on our own understanding and effort, thinking that if we just try harder, we’ll get through. But God’s way is not always about striving; it’s about learning to trust Him and let Him be our source. He sees us in our struggle and invites us to stop relying solely on what we know and instead depend on Him, even when His ways don’t make sense to us. [01:20:57]

Day 3: Guarding Against a Hardened Heart

After witnessing the miracle of the loaves, the disciples still did not understand, and their hearts were hardened. It’s possible to see God move powerfully and yet become numb, skeptical, or negative when the next challenge arises. A hardened heart can keep us from recognizing God’s provision and presence, causing us to miss out on the fullness of what He wants to do. God calls us to remain open, to remember His faithfulness, and to let our hearts be softened by His love and truth, even when we are tired or have experienced disappointment. [01:36:12]

Day 4: Jesus Prays for Us Even When We Feel Alone

There are moments when it feels like Jesus has left us to face the storm alone, but even then, He is interceding for us. Jesus went up on the mountainside to pray while the disciples were in the boat, and though they could not see Him, He saw them and cared deeply about their struggle. In our own seasons of loneliness or confusion, we can take comfort in knowing that Jesus is praying for us, advocating for us, and that His apparent absence is never abandonment. He is always working for our good, even when we don’t feel His presence. [01:27:40]

Day 5: Sharing Testimonies to Encourage Faith

God gives us testimonies—stories of His faithfulness and miracles—not just for ourselves, but to encourage others and to remind ourselves of His power when we face new challenges. Sometimes we discount our own testimonies or keep them hidden out of shame or fear, but sharing them can be the very thing someone else needs to hear. Likewise, remembering what God has done in the past can strengthen our faith for what we are facing today. Let’s be a people who celebrate and share the victories God has given, trusting that He will continue to move in our lives and in the lives of those around us. [01:54:42]

As we worship and remember his love, we are called to celebrate the miracles we’ve seen, trust him for the ones we need, and encourage one another with the testimonies he’s given us.

“They cried out because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, "Take courage. It is I. Don't be afraid." Then he climbed into the boat with them and the wind died down. When they were completely amazed, for they had not understood about the loaves, their hearts were hardened.”

“And just before we did this, God told me, you need to open your eyes to see my truth through my eyes. So they were completely amazed. So many times I see so many things in my life after the fact celebrations and I forget about how good he has for me and to see that in advance like God challenged me this season.”

“And just before dawn I was really mad at God and and I was like, why am I a disciple? And then he said this stood out. I was like, I don't want that one. And um and then he looked at he said to me because you're not letting me those areas in your heart. You're trying to do it yourself. You've seen things that have amazed you and yet you're in this hard place now.”

“He says, "Just do what you I've already said to do, and I want you to rest in that." And that's it. And resting in what he's already said to do on the scripture that he's given me, and not striving, and I'm a doer. And so, I want to do it all. And I'm and and that's where I'm beating my head against the wall because I'm trying to do it and trying to make it happen and not letting him have full control and casting that whole care.”

“And I heard, you know, God is provision. Uh he was their provision in the in the loaves and the fishes. Um he's their provision in the boat. Um he is fullness like with the loaves and the fishes. He expanded the loaves and the fish. He provided for every every bit of their needs. He filled all their needs. Um he's the source. He's the source of everything. And that we need to see him correctly in order to receive.”

“And so when you start thinking negative negative thoughts like even, oh, we have 12 basketballs. Where'd that come from? So you're you're not trusting, you're not believing. So mainly it's the spirit of negativity that really got me because at the end it says their hearts were hardened.”

“He wants to speak to my heart, to your heart about the places where I'm straining at the oars or you're straining at the orars. He cares about it. Otherwise, he' just blown them off and gone. I'm done with this. But yeah, he cared enough to to see them. He saw them and he saw them straining.”

“I like that God is not instant pudding. He lets us think about, you know, what we're what is going on in our mind or our our life. Yeah. Come on. Come on. I don't know about y'all, but y'all are percolating me.”

“We don't read scripture for knowledge. We don't read scripture to get smarter. We read scripture to meet Jesus where he wants to take us. And if there's this much in this little passage, there's a whole book.”

“So where do I already have a testimony? Now I'm going to tell you sometimes you don't have a testimony, but you have a friend who has a testimony. And that's like kissing your sister. Do you know what I mean? You're like, I don't know that really counts because he likes you.”
